Weekly Rentrak game rental chart: November 23-30
Tony Hawk skates to the top, while Rising Sun falls. All top 10 titles are played on the PlayStation 2.
The rental numbers over Thanksgiving week gave Sony sympathizers in the console wars reason to gloat. According to Rentrak, every single one of the top 10 rental games in the country were played on the PlayStation 2. Last week's two Xbox entries--the Grand Theft Auto Double Pack and Medal of Honor Rising Sun--both dropped out.
The holiday week also saw Activision take the two top slots in the console game rental race, thanks to a couple of fellows by the name of Tony Hawk and Nick Kang. Tony Hawk's Underground skated its way to the top position, with True Crime: The Streets of LA holding steady at second. Two new entries--the months-old Enter the Matrix and the recently released Final Fantasy X-2--arrived at number five at number 10.
The rest of the chart saw returning titles playing musical chairs. Football fans raised Madden NFL 2004 up five notches to number 3, while hobbit wannabes made Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King stand two spots taller at number 10. Need for Speed Underground's rentals slowed down, pushing it to number six. Medal of Honor: Rising Sun's popularity set as well, falling three spots to number four. SOCOM II: Navy Seals was also demoted two ranks to number nine, while WWE Smackdown!: Here Comes the Pain kept its sleeper hold on seventh place.
