Weekly Recap: All the VGA Awards Winners and News, Oblivion Backwards Compatibility

THE BIG STUFF:

The Game Awards 2016 took place this week, with Blizzard's Overwatch receiveing the award for overall Game of the Year. There were also game reveals and lots of new trailers. Even more Xbox 360 games are now playable on Xbox One, as Microsoft added a handful of titles to the backwards compatibility catalog this week, including none other than Bethesda's award-winning RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. THE OTHER STUFF:

Man at Arms has posted its latest video game video--and it's a cool one. Watch as the master swordsmiths forge Gengi's sword from Overwatch.

Have a FNAF fan on your Christmas list or want something for yourself? ThinkGeek has announced a Freddy Fazbear Pizza Kit, which comes with all manner of items themed around the creepy game, including an apron, pizza cutter, pizza pan, and pizza box. It costs $25.

Here's another way to waste time--Facebook announced this week that you can now play games in the Messenger. Those available right now include classics like Pac-Man, Galaga, and Space Invaders. "Many more" are coming, Facebook says. Get all the details here.

One of the game reveals at PSX this weekend was Games of Glory, from a team founded by former members of Ubisoft and DICE. It's a top-down shooter coming to PS4 and PC featuring cross-play support. The game is set to launch in spring 2017.

After more than eight years of development, The Last Guardian finally comes out next week. There will be a $120 collector's edition, and Sony has now posted a video that shows off everything it comes with. Take a look:

Zero Dark Thirty and Sausage Party film company Annapurna Pictures this week announced that it's getting into gaming with its own gaming division. Called Annapurna Interactive, the division is dedicated to "producing and publishing video games." The company will focus on making and publishing "personal, emotional, and original games that push the boundaries of interactive content and encourage artists to bring new visions to the medium." The publisher's first two games, which come out in Spring 2017, are Jason Roberts' Gorogoa and Giant Sparrow's What Remains of Edith Finch.
