Watch the Loud and Exciting Kong: Skull Island Trailer
"You knew that thing was out here?"
King Kong is back. The new trailer for Kong: Skull Island is here, and it features not just the legendary giant ape but a whole island filled with terrifying creatures. Watch it below:
Kong: Skull Island stars Thor's Tom Hiddleston, Oscar-winner Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, John C Reilly and John Goodman, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing. A first teaser was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con in the summer, while a viral site allowing fans to explore the island is also online. A new poster was released this week--check that out at the end of this story.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts spoke about the challenges of depicting Kong, and how he would differ from previous movies. "There's been obviously so many different versions of him in the past and ours needed to feel unique to our film," he said. "I had a mandate that I wanted a kid to be able to doodle him on the back of a piece of homework, and for his shapes to be simple and hopefully iconic enough that, like, a third grader could draw that shape and you would know what it is.
"We sort of went back to the 1933 version in the sense that he's a bipedal creature that walks in an upright position, as opposed to the anthropomorphic, anatomically correct silverback gorilla that walks on all fours. Our Kong was intended to say, like, this isn't just a big gorilla or a big monkey. This is something that is its own species. It has its own set of rules, so we can do what we want."
In December 2015, it was announced that the film would form part of an ongoing monster movie series. Following the success of 2014's Godzilla, producers Legendary have teamed up with Warner to create a "shared cinematic franchise" that will also include Godzilla 2 in 2018 and Godzilla Vs Kong in 2020.
Kong: Skull Island hits theaters on March 10, 2017.
