Now Playing: Red Dead Redemption 2 - Announcement Trailer

[UPDATE] The first Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer has landed. Check it out above. The video doesn't tell us a lot, but we do get a look at the game's vastly improved graphics and some gorgeous-looking scenery.

In terms of story, we never get a good look at what appears to the be the main character's face. One man, who sounds like Dutch van der Linde from the original Red Dead Redemption, says in the video, "Listen to me, when the time comes, you gotta run and don't look back. This is over."

There are seven characters seen at the end of the trailer, which follows on from previous Red Dead Redemption 2 teasers that showed seven cowboys.

The original story is below.

The first trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 will go live today at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET. You can watch the trailer in the Rockstar embed above, and GameSpot will have a complete breakdown from our editors about what was shown and what it might mean for the direction of the sequel.

We don't know much about Red Dead Redemption 2 at this point. A teaser shows seven different characters, but there is no word on if it will be a prequel or a sequel to Red Dead Redemption, which itself was a follow-up to Red Dead Revolver. It's also unknown what kind of gameplay advancements over the original may be in store. The trailer may answer some of these questions.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was officially announced earlier this week after a string of teases from Rockstar Games. The initial teases helped Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive's share price surge, though when the game--with a fall 2017 release date--was officially announced, stock value dropped.

Analyst firm Cowen & Company released a report that stated Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to sell at least 15 million copies. By comparison, the first Red Dead Redemption sold 13 million copies, though the figure may actually be higher, as it's only accurate as of February 2012.

Like Rockstar's mega-hit Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2 may bring in more money beyond initial unit sales through its "brand-new online multiplayer experience." It remains to be seen how this will work for Red Dead Redemption 2, but GTA V lets people spend real money to acquire in-game money, which can then be spent on all manner of items--and it's been big business.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has been announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. What are you hoping to see from the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer today? Let us know in the comments below!

as if the western setting was not boring enough, they needed to lay the focus on multiplayer. two good reasons for me personally to pass on this game.

If this game is coming out for xbox one will this game also be playable on Windows 10? I saw that I could download Killer Instinct which is supposed to be an exclusive for xb1... unfortunately can't run it on this super old computer.

@nl_skipper:

It has been ported to Xbox One so you should be able to pick it up for 360 or ONE.

7 main characters. I wonder if they are going after a "Magnificent 7" type story. I have enjoyed all the Rockstar games. To be honest Red Dead was not one of my favorites but I still enjoyed it. I am looking forward to this one.

Never understood why this and GTA are so popular. Excellent production values, but the gameplay is boring and bland. LA NOIRE was actually my favorite game from rockstar.

why is there a play button if your player starts playing automatically?

Hey Rockstar, bring it PC and your estimated sales will go from 15 million to 25 million. Really no reason not to since X1, PS4, and PC all use the same x86 architecture.

@troll_elite: And torrents will push it to 35,000,000

Why still being a console exclusive?

Well , that doesnt really matter , there are vast majority of great games i have yet to play, so i will just ignore this console exclusive shit...

@SOul_FUNk: what a desperate solace

@metin3191: those who willingly led by the nose like a dog is really pathetic, even they do not want a console, but they ended up buying a console just particularly for exclusive games.

Avatar image for deactivated-5a0b0bf0c8fa5

I bet they're going to do the same thing they did with GTA V (essentially re-release the same game multiple times), they're going to release a vastly superior PC version a year or so after the console release. Considering how well GTA V sold on Steam, it'd be a brain dead move to not release it on PC.

Avatar image for metin3191
metin3191

@repulsive44552: no, not same, they had said pc version will come. But they said Rdr 2 isn't going to be on pc like rdr 1.

Avatar image for deactivated-5a0b0bf0c8fa5

@metin3191: They never released the first RDR on PC because of piracy concerns and they weren't sure it was worth the effort as GTA 4 on PC sold pretty poorly compared to that of console sales, GTA V shut down that speculation, it's remained on the top 10 selling list (or not far off) since release on Steam. They'd be stupid not to release it on PC from a corporate perspective.

@metin3191: they never mentioned the PC version of GTA5 for months after its initial announcement, it's still early days yet
