Watch the Amazing Trailer for First-Person Gaming Inspired Movie Hardcore

Guns, grenades, explosions, blood!

There have been many movie adaptations of video games over the years, but few that truly recreate the thrills of playing the games themselves. The upcoming action thriller Hardcore, looks set to change this.

It's a blistering, first-person experience that draws direct influence from the gaming world. Check out the amazing tailer below:

Director Ilya Naishuller received considerable attention last year for the award-winning first-person POV music video he directed for his band Biting Elbows. The video caught the attention of Timur Bekmambetov, the man behind the Nightwatch trilogy and the Angelina Jolie/James McAvoy thriller Wanted, who offered to produce a film showcasing many of these pioneering techniques.

Naishuller has spoken about the influence of video games upon Hardcore, and his attempts to avoid direct references to specific games.

"It's a love letter to music, film, and video games," he told Grantland.com. "I can list off the games that I've always loved and that had influences on it. I love Half-Life, but there's not a nod to Half-Life, apart from the fact that it is a first-person movie, which to me is a nod enough.

"You don't need to have the guy have a crowbar in the film. These kind of things we avoided on purpose. I remember I had a script, and one of our guys was like, 'Why don’t you kill the first guy with a crowbar, it'll be funny because everyone will realize that it's a Half-Life reference." And I'm like, 'The whole film is a Half-Life reference'!

"Instead, we kill him with a windshield wiper, which I thought would be much cooler."

Hardcore stars District 9's Sharlto Copley, and recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. It is due for release in 2016.
