Watch Pokemon's Super Bowl Ad Right Now
[UPDATE] The Pokemon Company said in a press release that this is the extended cut. A 30-second version will run at the start of Super Bowl 50's third quarter.
The original story is below.
Super Bowl 50 isn't for another two weeks, but The Pokemon Company has now released the commercial it will air for the franchise during the big game. The 60-second video is pretty exciting, showcasing children and young adults from around the world repeating the phrase, "I can do that" as they prepare for a Pokemon showdown. The video also beckons the viewer to "train on." Check it out below.
According to a recent report, 30-second ad space for the big game on February 7 costs a whopping $5 million, meaning The Pokemon Company might have paid $10 million for this video.
It's possible this is the extended cut, and a slimmed-down version will air during Super Bowl 50, but the description doesn't mention that being the case.
Pokemon won't be the first game to get a Super Bowl commercial. There were quite a few last year, all of which were for mobile games. Before that, a trailer for EA's Dante's Inferno ran during the Super Bowl in 2010.
Super Bowl 50 takes place Sunday, February 7 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, featuring the Denver Broncos against the Carolina Panthers. It will be broadcast on TV network CBS, whose parent company, CBS Corp., also owns GameSpot.
2016 is the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise. In addition to his Super Bowl ad, The Pokemon Company has a lot more in store to celebrate, including special-edition 3DS hardware, re-releases of classic Pokemon games, and more.
