Watch New Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Story Trailer

Twilight Princess HD arrives on March 4.

Nintendo has released a story trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, the new version of the GameCube/Wii role-playing game launching later this year for Wii U. The video showcases the acclaimed RPG's updated graphics and provides an overview of the narrative. Check it out below.

A limited edition version of Twilight Princess HD will come packaged with a Wolf Link Amiibo. The game will support the other Legend of Zelda Amiibo characters from the Smash Bros. roster (e.g. Toon Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, etc.).

Progress saved to the Amiibo from Twilight Princess will carry over in some way to the upcoming The Legend of Zelda game on Wii U, though further details have not been announced.

Twilight Princess HD is being developed by Australian studio Tantalus, and is due out on March 4, 2016.

It's an uncommon thing for a nearly ten-year-old video game to get a new story trailer. What do you make of it? Let us know in the comments below!

I would love to see some new IPs from Nintendo or if they are just dead set and rebooting games. Redo some classics like Earthbound or Secret of Mana or super mario rpg.

@jenovaschilld: Earthbound's plot finished according to the creator and he doesn't want it revisited. The Mana series is owned by Square Enix and is still getting games on various platforms. Super Mario RPG was a joint production between Square and Nintendo and as such has contractual issues to ever revisit even for a re-release, let alone brand new games. As such, Nintendo succeeded it with both the Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi series.

A new story-trailer for a re-release of a older game (especially when it's a remaster) isn't completely unheard-of Gamespot. Ninendo clearly did this to add some appeal to the newer generation of Ninendo owner's who weren't present or perhaps old-enough when the original game launched over a decade ago (who may be new to this particular entry). They're just covering all their bases, if you will.

Played Wind Waker but skipped on this game and Skyward Sword because I had an immense hatred for the Wii. It's only much later that I found out that the game came out for the GameCube as well :(

@bunchanumbers: Same here. Have you heard if there is any reward for completing the Amiibo Bonus dungeon?

@drumjod: I heard that the bonus is a bigger wallet that holds 9999 rupees. Its convenient but not necessary. So I'll be playing it old school.

@bunchanumbers: I suppose 9999 rupees could be nice for the best armor but I recall not really needing it by the time I earned it the first time.

Sweet got my copy reserved. I cant wait to replay this. One thing I didn't like about the gamecube version was how dark and grainy it was, this looks way better. I really wish they would redo Skyward Sword, I have the Wii version, but I have only played through about a quarter of it, I just cant stand the controls.

@R4gn4r0k: I think alot of folks do. I know tons of people who couldn't finish Skyward Sword because they couldn't get into the game for the convoluted motion controls. Even in my own case, they wore me out after only a hour or two each time I would play. They were clearly a HUGE barrier for many old-school Zelda fans, and a equally large turn-off to alot of otherwise intrested gamers. It's the only Zelda game in the entire franchise that I personally haven't been able to bring myself to finish. :( A HD re-release would certainly fix that though.

@tony56723: My favourite 3D Zelda, definitely. Favourite all around is a close tie between the Oracle games and Link's Awakening.

I feel like I'm in the minority when I say that I found Twlight Princess to be just "ok". I enjoyed it as a Zelda game, but I found OoT, Majora's Mask, and Windwaker to be much more enjoyable. I would like to give this game another shot though, considering it's now in HD and I now don't have those dumb Wii controls that made me wish I had bought the Gamecube version.

@EXxile: For me, Twilight Princess--and most, if not all, of the sequels that have followed it--just lacks soul. It's Zelda-by-committee. It has all the criteria of a Zelda game, on paper, but it lacks the creativity of Wind Waker and Majora's Mask.

Nonetheless, it's a pretty good game, technically. I played on Gamecube and enjoyed it. It's far meatier than the other 3-D installments, so there's that. And while there are some tedious sections, it never devolves to mind-numbing lows that Skyward Sword reaches. : P

@EXxile: A lot of it is personal taste honestly. I've liked all of the Zelda games but I haven't loved all of them. In all honesty Skyward Sword is one of my least favorite and Twilight Princess is one of my favorites. I just didn't enjoy the "Your princess is in another castle" style adventure from Skyward Sword.

@mirage_so3: "Fashionably Late" syndrome as Yahtzee once put it. Forever arriving at the story points too late to actually witness them.

SS had this constant feeling of being a bystander in someone else's story. The sky thing was woefully underutilised (I guess I was setting myself up for disappointment when I was expecting Wind Waker in the sky, something I'd always hoped for). They made this big deal about your bird and how you bonded and all that for the first hour and then...never brought up again. Ever.

Fi was set up as this character who'd grow and learn alongside you...only for her to have no character arc what so ever.

And every area made you jump through a bunch of hoops to progress for no other reason than proving your worth.

I liked Twilight Princess more than Skyward Sword personally, but I would have rather seen Skyward Sword in HD than Twilight Princess.

@NTM23: I completely agree. I think Skyward Sword's visuals would transition a lot better in HD compared to Twilight Princess.

Windwaker's art style made the HD remake look amazing, Twilight Princess HD looks slightly better than a late PS2 game.

@catsimboy: Actually, when Wind Waker gave trailers, everyone said it looked the same. It wasnt until they saw it on the 60in HD TV that they saw the true difference, then no one said Wind Waker HD looked the same, they all said it was amazing.

@catsimboy: Wind Waker was a different style though. Making cell shaded games like Wind Waker would still be acceptable today, however they couldn't exactly redo all of Twilight Princess. It's graphical style is simply old. It looks a lot better than it did on gamecube and it's widescreen finally with a better controller.

@mirage_so3: That's exactly why I said "Windwaker's art style" it doesn't halp Twilight Princess' case that it was released early Wii, the Wii isn't a powerhouse at the best of times. But I still think they could've added a few more things to this HD remake to make it look a little better. Just some simple ground detail like small rocks or grass would really help with the big flat areas.

@catsimboy: But they have. Look up some comparison videos and you'll see a lot of things were re-done, especially 2D sprites and such.

@Dragon_Nexus: Doesn't change the fact the ground looks barren, especially in the wide open fields. If you watched the video in black and white it would look like Link is riding Epona on the moon.

@catsimboy: Its a HD game. Its not a remake like FF7. Besides, the textures of the grass and all the grounds were all redone. It looks way better when you compare it to the SD versions.
