Now Playing: Mass Effect: Andromeda - Official Cinematic Reveal Trailer

[UPDATE] BioWare has released a new cinematic trailer for Andromeda; watch it in the video embed above.

"We slept for hundreds of years, dreaming of a new home. But when we finally awoke, our dreams of peace were shattered," the narrator, Ryder's father, says in the video.

It was also confirmed today that more Andromeda gameplay will be shown during The Game Awards in December. Additionally, Game Informer reveals that Ryder's father is voiced by Clancy Brown, who voices Mr. Krabs in Spongebob and also appeared in Warcraft and The Shawshank Redemption.

The original story is below.

BioWare will publish a new trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda today to celebrate N7 Day. While we have to wait a little while longer for the trailer itself, you can now watch a teaser, which is a rehash from what BioWare released a year ago today on N7 Day 2015:

"You will say goodbye, and you will look back one last time and know that wherever you go, we will be with you. This is Commander Shepard signing off," Shepard voice actress Jennifer Hale says.

Today's trailer will follow a teaser video from November 1, which showed off new characters and featured narration by main character Ryder's father. This video also invited viewers to join the "Andromeda Initiative," which is a group that will apparently travel outside of the Milky Way Galaxy.

We don't know what exactly the Andromeda Initiative is, but you can sign up for it at its website. Presumably, today's Andromeda video will discuss the nature of the Andromeda Initiative.

We will update this post with the Andromeda trailer and Andromeda Initiative details as they're announced. The trailer is set to arrive between 9 AM PT and 11 AM PT today.

Andromeda is due out before the end of March 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game is shaping up well right now, according to EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, but the publisher could delay the game if it feels that's the right thing to do.

After planning to launch the game in 2016, EA delayed Andromeda, only saying it would now be released during its fourth fiscal quarter, which spans January through March. Earlier this year, a delay until "early 2017" was confirmed by BioWare, explaining that it "need[s] the right amount of time to make sure [it] deliver[s] everything the game can be and should be."

An Amazon listing for an Andromeda tie-in art book suggested the game might launch on March 21.

This trailer is meh. It's like a movie trailer, with bunch of 1 second clips all tied together telling us very little. They even use the movie sound effects in certain parts. There's going to be a new huge threat coming after our galaxy.

Looks like they are recycling the same story, which is a shame, because this should be like ME1 where you can freely explore the new galaxy without feeling the world is ending soon. I was kind of hoping they would be resetting the story. Still too early to tell.

I am sure the microtransactions will be cinematic and epic

Avatar image for KoRniTo

And I still need to play ME3, damn better hurry.

Avatar image for BlackBaldwin

Not exactly blown away by this trailer but its a nice little tid bit to hold me off for awhile keep them coming bioware!

Avatar image for GunEye

Before I watch this : I haven't played Mass Effect 3 yet - are there any spoilers here in this trailer or any other Andromeda footage?

Avatar image for BlackBaldwin

@GunEye: No Me3 spoilers your fine to have a look and other then the snibbit of of the first trailer found above in the article there was a 4k presentation gameplay first look showing off the ps pro hardware upscaling there isnt anything else out yet.

You know for people that can travel to the next galaxy why are they still jumping and walking on the ground. I thought they would be teleporting around or at the very least get some drones to explore the dungeon. And they are still carrying rifles on their back ? One hell of anachronism. It's too bad Bioware is still holding on to sci fi tropes for the setting.

ME2 and ME3 also made backwards compatible for Xbox One today as well.

Needs more of that movie trailer bass boom sound effect

Atleast the main character doesn't look quite as derpy as he did before.

Avatar image for Mogan

It's certainly the best LOOKING Bioware game yet.

Avatar image for snugglebear

The best you could dredge up for Clancy brown is Mr Krabs? I'll take it.

Avatar image for frank_castle

These trailers are fucking useless

Show gameplay

Avatar image for kdogpa

@frank_castle: and now begins the "post No Man's Sky" era of video game announcements. Of course seeing how that all played out I don't blame anyone demanding gameplay vids but as with most games we won't truly know anything until played and reviewed.

Avatar image for Mogan

@frank_castle: They will. Capturing gameplay in development, that doesn't LOOK like gameplay in development takes a lot of work. They've got to finish some part of the game to the point where they can play through it and make it look like the final product.

Trailer claims it is capture in game. BF1 trailer initial trailer also claimed it was capture in game. That it was "in engine footage".
But most of the footage was CGI. They mix pre rendered with real time, And in this trailer they are doing the same.
This is deceptive as it gives a false sense that actual gameplay will look as good as the pre rendered stuff.

With that said, my biggest disappointment with this trailers is that it is yet another trailer that doesn't explain much.
If this was a trailer for movie I wouldn´t know much about the plot. It also shows little regarding actual gameplay.
I expected something more along the lines of E3 gameplay trailer for Mass Effect 3.

Considering I loved past Mass Effect games, I have little concern regarding Mass Effect Andromeda. Should offer similar experience and all that. But I do think it will take a bit longer considering its November and they still can´t show a more robust video.

Avatar image for Phelaidar

If this trailer can tell anything, perhaps is that the transition is over.

Mass Effect has finally made the final steps into a "Michael Bay" game... which is a shame.

We already have COD for that.

Avatar image for Dilandau88

@Phelaidar: fail comment

Avatar image for swantn5

@Phelaidar: ouch...a michael bay game? oh god i hope not

Avatar image for gameroutlawzz

Just like every mass effect games: Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooorinnnnnnnnnnggg...

Avatar image for musalala

Why are they so afraid to show gameplay...I hope it won't be always online like destiny or the division

Avatar image for chaosbrigade

@musalala: Because the game is still in alpha.

Avatar image for SebTheGreat

@musalala: It shouldn't be but does it matter, is your internet that inconsistent?

Avatar image for musalala

@SebTheGreat: well it might dilute the story and it might compromise the single player experience

Avatar image for sdzald

So this was the BIG N7 event? I thought we might get an announcement about ME 2 & 3 becoming BC or a re-mastering of the entire ME series. Instead we get a a trailer that does not even show any game play. Sigggghhhhh what did I expect after EA forced the gaming worlds worst ending to one of the best series ever?

Avatar image for freeryu

@sdzald: They are available through BC.

Avatar image for Mogan

@freeryu: 2 and 3 are now? Not just the first game?

Avatar image for freeryu

@Mogan: Yep 2 and 3 are available now. Downloading 3 right now.

Avatar image for Mogan

@freeryu: Sweet. Thanks for the info.

Avatar image for sdzald

I stand corrected! Thanks for the heads up. Time to play all three again and then just ignore the ending :)

Avatar image for freeryu

@sdzald: No prob :)

Avatar image for vs_shield

Cool minus the Michael Bay robots & sound effects....Shame they chose that route. Their original creations were much more unique.

Avatar image for Fartman7998

The graphics in this trailer make my computer feel old.

Avatar image for starjay009

Pretty useless. Nothing of substance following the typical Bioware bull crap of a hype for months. Looks mediocre too. I know I shouldn't be jumping to conclusions but this is an EA game more than a Bioware title. So I am not at all excited. I expected some gameplay demo to give us an idea to the sense of direction they were taking. But we get a mix of CGI and in-game FOV sequences lasting just over a minute and half. Lousy and lazy Bioware as usual.

Avatar image for the-games-masta

@starjay009: you're mediocre

Avatar image for RogerioFM

@the-games-masta: My, aren't you butt hurt.

Avatar image for pdfanboy

@starjay009: My thoughts exactly. There is nothing new in this trailer.

Avatar image for Nakaruga

@pdfanboy: yup, just like DA:I didn't add much to the formula. Kinda sad but at least the multiplayer should be tons of fun if it's anything like the one in ME3.
