Life is Strange developer Dontnod Entertainment on Friday released a new trailer for its upcoming time-bending game that goes into depth about main character Max's ability to rewind time.

No Caption Provided

Titled "The Butterfly Effect," the video gets you up to speed with how Max's powers work, and offers a glimpse into how the time-travel mechanic can affect the gameplay.

Similar to the Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day, Life is Strange allows players to, at least in theory, become smarter over time by using knowledge from past mistakes or stumbles. Also, when players travel back through time, they can carry items from the present with them, giving them tools to use that they didn't have before.

Looking for even more about Life is Strange? You can speak directly with the developers on Tuesday, January 27, when Dontnod hosts a Reddit AMA starting at 6 AM PDT.

Life is Strange is an episodic series that will be published by Final Fantasy company Square Enix. The first episode launches January 30 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more on Life is Strange, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

It looks better than any advertised, over paid and overused Ubisoft games.

How about fast-forwarding time?

<< LINK REMOVED >> That's an interesting question. You can only rewind a short time anyway and the AI is scripted so I can't think of a technical reason why not. You could fast-forward time to place an object in a particular place and then rewind to put some other object where it would interact with it and then watch it play out.
There could be a lot of gameplay opportunities there.

Is that a PS3 game? The hair looks like plastic helmets. Getting too use to next gen graphics... Oh, it's another one of those last gen ports.. Never mind.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I think they blew too much money on graphics in Remember Me, that had some pretty stunning photogrammetry work. Their budget is probably smaller anyway because RM didn't do that well.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> And obviously have to needlessly spread their resources across both last gen and current gen which ultimately will hurt the game.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> It's a risky decission now to focus only in next gen now if you are a small studio and put a lot of money a game, when you can access a considerably bigger user base in last gen. This will change with time, but right now little non-indie or non-AAA studios will do it.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Depends which platform they build first. It's UE3 so it'll port from PC to all the consoles quite easily. Ultimately they're going after the bigger install base. 35 million vs ~280 million is a pretty easy decision.

Hmm, just had an interesting thought on time travel. So if you pick up a knife and rewind time, the knife wouldn't simply re-materialise where it was, you would keep it. There's no physics tying that knife to that point at that time. So reversing time only maintains physical interactions that are unaltered, otherwise causation would be violated. The knife still exists, its place in the world is irrelevant to causation.

That applies to the so-called "Grandfather paradox" too. If you prevented your grandparents from procreating you wouldn't dissolve, you would simply orphan yourself.

<< LINK REMOVED >> And I always believed that you turn into a nuclear explosion if you prevent your grandparents from procreating. Apparently, someone in Hiroshima tried that.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> lol. Well the Prince already had the dagger on him. As for the nuclear explosion, I think that's the result of thinking of your grandparents naked.

<< LINK REMOVED >> You should discuss this with the Prince of Persia. He has experience with rewinding time while having a dagger in his hand. He should know a thing or two.
