The first trailer for Oscar-winner Oliver Stone's movie about Edward Snowden, the former NSA contractor who exposed government spying, has come online. The movie is described as a "politically charged, pulse-pounding thriller," and this first video definitely has a lot of that. Check it out:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Edward Snowden. The movie also features Shailene Woodley, Nicolas Cage, Timothy Olyphant, Zachary Quinto, and Tom Wilkinson, all of whom appear in the trailer.

Stone has won three Oscars, including Best Director for 1986's war movie Platoon.

Documents leaked by Snowden have revealed far-reaching government surveillance efforts. One particular document he leaked in 2013 showed that United States and British spies infiltrated games like World of Warcraft and Second Life, as well as Xbox Live, in an effort to hunt down terrorists.

Snowden opens on September 16. What do you make of the trailer? Let us know in the comments below!
