Now Playing: Watch Dogs 2 Review in Progress

Watch Dogs 2 may now be out in the wild (except for PC owners), but that doesn't mean the whole game is working as it should. Its seamless multiplayer, in which other players can appear in your game, and you in theirs, is currently deactivated.

In a statement, publisher Ubisoft said it pulled the plug on the feature as it was causing the game "to lag and crash periodically." The publisher went on to say, "In order to eliminate that issue at launch and for players to enjoy a smooth game play experience, we have decided to wait to launch the seamless multiplayer feature so it would not impact the core gameplay experience.

"Players can fully enjoy the entire single-player experience without any concerns. Additionally, co-op is still fully functional by inviting friends through the game menu. However, the Bounty-Hunter mode and other activities that would occur with other outside players who enter your game will be unavailable until the issue is resolved."

We at GameSpot have encountered the above problems ourselves. Critic Peter Brown said in his review in progress, "We only experienced multiplayer-related frame rate issues a few times, [but] it was relentless when it occurred--rebooting the game was the only cure."

WOW!!! This looks so fucking stupid. The MP looks like it was designed for children looking to tool around with other tools. By the looks of it theres a good chance it will be worse then the first one, which is saying a lot, because that was a fetus that should have been an early term abortion

It's not broken. It's not added yet.

Honestly, I don't mind. I am SOOOO eager to play my new favorite AAA title "WatchDogs 2", + Co-op still works which is NEW and awesome (mind you, you can't Co-op the campaign in GTA, even now). So I am okay with waiting. Also, please don't forget that GTA 5 also didn't launch with multi-player and when it finally did, it was broken as "KCUF!!" <-- and for a long time. But it got 10/10 everywhere! Give Watch Dogs a chance.

Regardless of how the online impact in this game, the trend of releasing broken, unfinished products on this generation is almost infuriating.

With Ubisoft of course as a good example. Wether it's a graphical downgrade, a broken feature and etc. With them there's always a catch it seems, always something that doesn't work quite right.

Seriously why would anyone even buy this garbage anymore? Ubisoft is horrible.

@edwardnygma: I agree, a pile of garbage, i cant even play Ubisoft games anymore. They burned be with the Watch Dogs and then again with the Division, Primal was a snooze fest typical ubisoft formula. Black Flag was the last decent game they made, i want to look forward and will probably get Wildlands because of the 4 player CO OP and thats probably it. Ubisoft has let me down with mediocre crap, stop encouraging them people.. They SUCK!!!

If you fell for another generic copy/paste GTA-wannabe Ubisoft open-world game, I feel sorry for you.

I knew Ubisoft couldn't launch a game without it being broken. I just don't trust them anymore and wish ppl would stop supporting them for their piss poor work.

is the average gamer anticipating this game? it feels like watch dogs 2 will just come and go with little fanfare. another cookie-cutter offering from ubisoft for the books.

Multiplayer being broken on games like these is in equivalent of getting your food at a fast food joint and dropping a single french fry on the dirty floor. There's a whole single-player game to play, so this is nothing.

@Xirtahm: A few years ago I may have agreed with you - but not now. Nowadays, there are SO many online aspects to a game that having the online servers deactivated impacts your gaming experience almost every single time you pick up the controller. To make matters worse, this is a game whose whole premise is on hacking and being connected - and the game cannot stay connected itself. That's pretty sad.

@VakarianGirl: Certain games? Yes. A game like Watch Dogs 2? I'm playing it now, and I've completely forgotten about its online components... because I've been too busy with the main story. There's so much that a lot of these games offer outside of multiplayer that reports like these aren't as big of an inconvenience as many exaggerate.

If this were something like Battlefield, Borderlands, Diablo, etc... oh HELL YES I'd agree with the frustration. But there's a whole game to be played outside of that in others. While they fix the problems, we can still enjoy the game for what it is.

@thageorgian: At who's cost? I'm thoroughly enjoying the game, and am perfectly happy with my purchase. How does any of this news or setback inconvenience me or anyone else enjoying the single-player in any way, shape, or form?

If anything, if all you care about is multiplayer in everything, that's your problem, not ours. Have fun assuming that all these game companies are EVIL, SINISTER BAD GUYS. We'll be over here peacefully playing our games. ;)

Avatar image for thageorgian

@Xirtahm: lol I dont assume those things, Not all game companies are like that. CD Projekt Red, Naughty Dog are amazing gaming companies. Ubisoft on the other hand. They need people like you. Just a fact lol as a business.

Avatar image for Xirtahm

@thageorgian: You assume plenty. I think it's hilarious how so many people like you think that we're somehow inconvenienced by any of this. Not everyone has to have the same taste or ideals as you. CD Projekt Red comes out with one game every several years, and while The Witcher is indeed a phenomenal series, it's still one game.... every few years. No one said anything bad about Naughty Dog either... or Rocksteady... or many OTHER companies that excel above others.

But for all your whining and bitching about how HORRIBLE and DECEPTIVE Ubisoft, EA, Activision, Blizzard, Square, etc are... that's on you, and that's your personal call. While you sit and pout, we'll continue enjoying Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, World of WarCraft, Rainbow Six, Overwatch, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Watch Dogs, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Dragon Age, Diablo, Mass Effect, Splinter Cell.... etc.

There's a market for everyone, and people are going to keep buying these franchise titles on a regular basis because they enjoy playing them. What you hate, others enjoy. Live life, play what you like, and move on.

@Xirtahm: Assuming makes an ass out of you and... just you. I would love to read your thesis there but it looks like your putting words in my mouth again, Truth hurts buddy, enjoy all your games though, I will also. But facts are facts.

Avatar image for Xirtahm

@thageorgian: To be fair, I'm not the one who bolstered "businesses love consumers like you" in your original reply. So, you don't like buying things? *shrug* Assumptions will be made accordingly.

Avatar image for thageorgian
ThaGeorgian

@Xirtahm: Lol, I just wanted to find out why prople like you support these companies, judging by your overly defensive essays, I can also assume a part of you thinks im correct. Since we are assuming accordingly.

Avatar image for Xirtahm

@thageorgian: We can assume back and forth all we want. If you want to keep exposing yourself as some sort of "elitist", by all means, that's your prerogative. I just find it amusing as hell that folks like you think we're somehow suffering because of all this.

We're enjoying our game, and you trot in here to give your two cents that we're paying money to a company you don't personally like. If anything, I'd think it's safe to assume that you're more bothered by this than I am. I'm here to have fun. I don't let trivial stuff like this become some sort of damper on life.

Avatar image for thageorgian
ThaGeorgian

@Xirtahm: Actually I own many of ubisofts games, I dont mind their company as much as specific games they release half finished. Also what damper on life? Games are not my life maybe for you they are? To each their own I guess lol. This doesn"t affect me in the slightest, but it's interesting to see why consumers like you support unfinished games, Im glad you are enjoying it though I hope they fix the multiplayer meanwhile.

This is the least of Ubisoft's problems.

Usual Ubi quality game though. lol
