Watch Blizzard's 25th Anniversary Celebration Video
"I'm really excited to see what will happen in the next 25 years."
Blizzard Entertainment, one of the biggest names in game development, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. To mark the milestone, the company put out a video in which co-founders Mike Morhaime and Frank Pearce discuss the company's legacy and some of their favorite memories over the years.
Pearce shares that one of his fondest memories was the midnight launch event for World of Warcraft back in 2004. He said he was blown away by the number of people waiting in line to buy what would become a genre-defining MMO that continues to attract millions of players to this day.
For his part, Morhaime said he's "really excited to see what will happen in the next 25 years."
Blizzard was founded in 1991 as Silicon & Synapse. The studio later changed names to Chaos Studios and then again to Blizzard in 2004. The developer is now owned by Activision Blizzard. For more on Blizzard's history, you can read this essay that Pearce wrote for GameSpot sister site CNET.
A timeline of key events from the developer's history is also available on Blizzard's website.
The developer's latest game, Overwatch, represents the company's first all-new franchise in 17 years. The game is currently in a closed beta testing period and is scheduled to launch publicly later this year across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
