Sequels in gaming are sometimes referred to as "long-awaited" when it's only been a few years' wait, but here's one example where that really applies: Wasteland 2, the sequel to 1988's Wasteland, will arrive on PC on September 19, its developer announced today.

Brian Fargo, founder of developer InXile Entertainment, announced the date on Twitter today, writing, "Official Wasteland 2 release date... September 19th! The 20+ year wait is soon over." Saying "20+" undersells just how long it's been, as 2014 marks the 26-year anniversary of the original Wasteland's release.

Wasteland 2, which fans successfully funded through Kickstarter in 2012 to the tune of almost $3 million, was originally scheduled to launch this month before it had to be pushed back until September. The RPG has been playable in Steam Early Access for quite some time as InXile updated it with new content, improvements, and bug fixes.

Like Wasteland 2, the original Wasteland was directed by Fargo, who, at the time, worked for Interplay Entertainment. When it was released in 1997, the original Fallout--developed by Fargo and Interplay--was effectively a spiritual successor to Wasteland. Fallout has gone on to become a hugely successful series, thanks in large part to Bethesda's Fallout 3 and Obsidian's Fallout: New Vegas, while Wasteland went silent for the better part of two decades.

my favourite games are Fallout 1&2 and Planescape: Torment.
that genre has been dead for a loooong while now, but Wasteland 2, and Tides of Numenera are giving me some hope that it might return...
and of course there is Pillars of Eternity too, but f*ck Obsidian, they are terrible...

Gameplay wise = might be good. Graphic wise = this is one ugly looking game. I would prefer if they sticked to original Fallout graphic style. Isometric view, not this poor 3D graphic. I would like it to look like Divinity Original Sin graphic wise. Ohhh yeah this is the truth.

and anyway, if it were my decision, every single game would just use the same engine as Fallout or Planescape Torment, with some Kotor-ish games mixed in every now and then.
those were some perfect games...

This is not hand holding kiddie pool games here, crank up the difficulty or not, turn off the tutorial or not, you will have an amazingly good in depth adult rpg game from times of old with UI and graphics of today.

You hear the buzz of the CD-rom spinning as it loads Fallout, you smell the heat coming from that non-video card pc as it boots up baldurs gate, or the glare of shadowrun off that huge box shaped CRT monitor and its large 15" screen! Come on D&D rules are set, role play options check, invite some friends over for a LAN, pull the trigger son it is as good as the hype.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The characters portraits and graphics are sharp, detailed and like that of old very realistic. The gameplay does not hold your hand, rush in and die, you gotta use strategy. Story - do not know yet. The game ran smooth only on my high end gaming pc my 2010 built struggled not because of lack of power but I think, lack of game/graphical tweaking on the developer side.

@lilmcnessy The title is correct..what are you talking about? Wasteland 1 released in 1988 and it's the predecessor aka father of Fallout. The sequel of said game releases this year and 26years have passed since then.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Nothing wrong with Divinity comparisons as that is incredible game of the same style and genre, heck I wish I was compared to Chris Hemsworth more as I know i should be. I played 8 hrs into the steam early release and damn is it good.

My only complaint is that is runs slow on all of our pcs from geforce 450gt to radeon r9. when the game is played at 1080p and maybe multi monitor support. It needs some tweaking on the developers end, and while some think a gamepad is a sin, this game should have it added by the team.
