Warhammer 40,000 gets the Unreal Engine 4 treatment in Space Hulk: Deathwing

The Space Marines are looking better than ever in Unreal Engine 4.

Space Hulk: Deathwing, a first-person shooter set in Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 universe, is looking pretty great in its first batch of screenshots.

Based on Games Workshop’s classic Space Hulk boardgame (which recently got its own video game), Space Hulk: Deathwing is being built on the Unreal Engine 4 by Streum On Studio, which previously developed E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy. As you can see in the screenshots, Unreal Engine 4 looks like a natural fit for the Space Marines’ bulky armor and the dark corridors of the Space Hulk where the game is set.

In Warhammer 40,000 fiction, a Space Hulk is a huge collection of wrecked ships, asteroids, and other debris fused together into one enormous body floating in space. In the game, you’ll assume the role of Deathwing Librarian, who leads a squad of Space Marine Terminators through the alien-infested Space Hulk. You’ll gain Fervor Points as you play, which you can then spend on four skill trees, allowing you to improve your abilities, unlock new powers, and access powerful relics and new weapons.

Publisher Focus Home Interactive has yet to announce a release date.

I loved the Spacehulk: vengenence of the blood angels for the Sega Saturn (I think that was the full title), that was so much fun and sometimes a little scary.

I liked how it was set just like it was a board game and how you could set out your terminators how you wanted the to be, covering corridors or rooms with teleports where Genestealers came out.

I would go on certain levels were i would just kill as many Genestealers as possible, arms, legs and heads all over the place, brilliant hahaha

I hope it's as gory as that one was :-) :-)

I really hope this manages to get out. Seems like so many Warhammer games have been cancelled or scrapped the past few years, or sloppy games get released. I would love to get a new 40k game! Another Warhammer 40k Dawn of War game would be a welcome sight as well. Although I prefer it go back to the originals, and not DoW2. I prefer big armies, not little squads.

Im glad they r making another warhammer40,000 single player game. I played Space Marine (as well as all the warhammer strategy games) which was a very decent single player game, and ive been hoping for another single player game in the warhammer universe.

Personally I found Space Marine almost as good as(I kno I will probably get some flac for this) the new wolfenstein game (which is great, by the way)

After Relic, so many 40k games have come out, each of them worse than the last. Relic at least respected the license. please let this be at least decent, I REALLY NEED A DECENT 40K GAME

I think for multiplayer they should have a mode where the tyrannid player should be able to play in a sort of "commander mode" and be able to spawn his allies in a location of his choosing and maybe set them to have limited AI (think "ambush" or "assault.") while still being able to play as a tyrranid himself. I'm sure it would take a lot of balancing but it could work.

Games Workshop has really no clue how to handle their own IP on the digital front, they had several 40k games since DOW 2 and Space Marine and all of them were a disappointment, why is it so hard for them to greenlight DOW 3? Surely GW's favorite thing on Earth is money.

@MAD_AI: Relic is busy doing other things I suppose, like spamming CoH2 dlc.

@tr4newreck Actually, Relic was acquired by Sega. Supposedly it was Relic that did the latest update to Dawn of War 1 on Steam - it is not integrated into Steamworks, so after Gamespy dies, Dawn of War will carry on. The series might yet live on.

The WH4K games are not always best game of the year, but they're enjoyable. Space Marine lacked a lot of depth but made up for it in just plain fun.

The last FPS game from warhammer 40k series came out in 2003 that was a long time .

This game sounds pretty promising , but only time will tell so .

why cannot they make a game like the boardgame. Fans would love it more than these shooters. How about using the same engine used to create xcom enemy unknown....closest thing i have played to table top game on a console. Now with next gen power surely fans will get the game they have always wanted.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I agree. A warhammer 40k style game combined with Xcom gameplay would be amazing. Or better yet, lets make a open world sandbox RPG game like Fallout, but with the Warhammer 40k universe! That would be phenomenal!

Point missed my friend, that is not a representation of the board game in anyway shape or form, it is a reworking of an old amiga game that was based on the spacehulk/heroquest board games that are basically wh40k for noobs nothing more. Before you call someone else a fool you should in the future make sure you know what you are at least talking about

@5SI-GonePostal Think people are a bit confused here when the first poster said "a game like the boardgame" it would make sense that he meant space hulk the boardgame since this game is called space hulk. But i believe he meant, as you did, the original warhammer 40k.

Don't really think Warhammer 40k is considered a boardgame either. Aren't they called miniature games or something? Guess boardgames need an actual board

<< LINK REMOVED >> The dev's (Full Control I think) did try and stick to the rule set and original board game map lay outs. It's about as close as you'll get to the original game on PC.

Yes they failed but they did try!

@Saidrex Some people actually think the recent Space Hulk was a good game -- a very well done duplicate of the board game.

Yes, it may not have constant explosions and epic lootz that modern gamers so crave; but I myself wanted - for a change - a game that doesn't bother with all that and tries to make a faithful version of the boardgame.

Actually, out of all the Warhammer games created -- a good number of them are pretty good.
