Blizzard Entertainment announced today that more than 1 million units of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos have been sold worldwide since its release on July 3. According to Blizzard, this makes Reign of Chaos the fastest-selling PC game ever, beating the records set in 2000 and 2001 by two other Blizzard titles, Diablo II and its Lord of Destruction expansion pack. In anticipation of heavy sales, Blizzard shipped 4.5 million copies of the game to retailers worldwide. Blizzard's sales announcement is based on a combination of sell-through data, internal estimates, and reports from retailers.

Warcraft III is a real-time strategy game in which players take control of one of four warring factions: humans, orcs, undead, and night elves. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
