Gathering of Developers, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, has announced Vietcong, its upcoming first-person shooter set during the Vietnam War. Players will assume the role of an elite US Special Forces soldier as they lead up to six other soldiers on a series of dangerous missions in the jungle. The game will feature more than 25 weapons, including M16 rifles, grenade launchers, and sniper rifles, and players will also have the option to call in air strikes and set up ambushes. The single-player storyline will span 20 missions, and the game's multiplayer mode will let players join either the US or the Vietcong forces.

We've posted some new screenshots that show off some of the game's characters, weapons, and environments in the gallery above. Vietcong is in development at Illusion Softworks, in association with the Pterodon development team, and it is scheduled for release this fall.
