Tom Hardy is ready to show the world how much he loves Eddie Brock and the Venom character. As the star of the upcoming sequel Let There Be Carnage, as well as 2018's inaugural Venom film, Hardy will also get his first writing credit as he contributed to the story for Carnage.

Speaking to Empire, returning screenwriter Kelly Marcel talks about Hardy's involvement with the story and how he wants his love of the character to shine through the script. "He loves this character. He's very involved in what he thinks should happen."

Marcel and Hardy's professional collaboration goes back all the way to 2008's Bronson where Marcel served as story editor. She praised Hardy's commitment to Eddie and Venom's story and how he saw the character and what he wanted to contribute. Even jokingly saying that Hardy is "married" to Venom.

While Marcel does get the solo screenplay credit this time around, she and Hardy talked at length about what they wanted for the sequel and not just for expanding the story, but Eddie's relationship with Keltus Cassidy, played by Woody Harrelson.

"We spent months breaking the story together on FaceTime, riffing on ideas, seeing what worked, seeing what didn’t," she explained. "Then I took everything we spoke about and holed up somewhere for three months quietly, knocking out a script."

Venom hit theaters in October of 2018 and becoming a box office hit earning more than $850 million against a budget of $100 million. Though it wasn't a critical success, audiences loved the bizarre fresh take on Eddie's relationship with the symbiote.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage comes to theaters September 15, 2021, in the UK, and September 24 in the US.
