The thing about SteamOS is that it benefits Valve for it to succeed but not consumers. It more about Valve breaking away from reliance on the Windows platform. There's no benefit to adopting SteamOS right now for the consumer. If Valve really wants it to succeed they will release Half-Life 3 as a SteamOS exclusive but at the same time that would probably be an extremely controversial move.

<< LINK REMOVED >>Did you actually think of this one before posting? SteamOS massively benefits the consumers! For the first time in twenty years, Windows has direct competition of the gaming master race(TM). They've stagnated since Windows XP when they made DirectX the only widely used gaming plugin. Worse, DirectX is bloated, inefficient, and all around terrible; but they have no reason to redesign it.

Now that Valve, the biggest name in PC games, is pushing their way into the ring (with linux no less) two things will happen. One, mainstream alternatives to Direct X will be created; bringing PC gaming to linux and mac. Two, Microsoft will have to update and trim up DirectX or face complete defeat.

Also, Valve has gone on record saying that no game will be required to be SteamOS only; and all SteamOS games can run on a normal linux system.

Agreed.

Eversince Microsoft killed HAL with Windows Vista, game audio has started to suck. I mean DooM3 PC (2004) sounds better than any modern game due to having EAX Advanced HD which has some of the original Aureal 3D technology in it. And it was done with hardware acceleration.

Hopefully now that Microsoft has this competition, there will be more going towards hardware accelerated audio tech like Aureal 3D. Because back in 1998 the audio technology was amazingly going forward (EAX Advanced HD basically already in 1998) but Creative Labs ruined the stuff by getting Aureal to defunct/bankruptcy. And Creative started their monopoly in the gameaudio world which lasted all the way to 2006..

Now that is interesting, would explain a lot why some are way above their reasonable prices.

lol, so Webhallen is basically a bitfenix case chucked with mini ITX board and an i7 with 16gb ram?

Overblown specs and price to boot + no creativity with the case, reduce it to i5, 8gb ram, amd 290x and u can thank me later for saving you $500+ even with that its still overkill and u can reduce it a lot more if ur not into future proofing the next 5-6 years.

But then again i guess that's the beauty of these machines there are different specs fora range of people so its alright but some are outright overkill, AVOID TITANS and i7 and sub 1TB and 16gb and SLI/CFX and u will save a lot of cash that u can actually spend on steam games :D

@Random_Matt@MJ-X

Its not that they are bad, its that you buy them from brands and end up paying a hefty premium so a suggestion would be to only go that way if u build your own system as u can shop for cheaper prices + discount + free shipping.

Buying SLI or CFX from a pre-built brand is $100 up to as much as $200 extra right there.

@Random_Matt@MJ-XSLI/Crossfire sounds neat, but I have never had a Total War, Paradox or Bugthesda game ever actually need that much power. lol

I think the CyberPowerPC case looks pretty cool and futuristic. The Tiki has marble and can cost up to $6000??!! W..T....F...?!

And Zotac looks like a router.. doesn't look like you can fit a powerful PC inside lol..

@MJ-X@vicsrealms@Aragorn823I have purchased two of their mini-ITX boards and had nothing but problems with them. At the time they were one of the only motherboards of that size that had 6 SATA slots. Much more recently, with LGA 1150/1155 that isn't really much of a problem as MSI, Gigabyte, and ASUS have really jumped into the mini-ITX market.

I have heard that their graphics cards are really tough, but I have always been an EVGA fan. ~grin~

Plus, the GT/GTX 8800 series still is a good solid card.

I will say that the Fractal design node 304 case is seriously good, unless you like the prodigy which is a load of cheap plastic.

@Sundberg_man@vicsrealms@Random_MattThe BitFenix Phenom is a nice looking case, but from what I have read the intake on the front is a little worrying. Hit youtube and look up OC3D TV, they have a great in depth review of the Phenom.

Whoops, wrong company. lol Was watching a review on the NZXT Phantom 530 case. lol
