Valve recruiting for hardware industrial designer

Valve has posted a job listing that is lending further credibility to rumours that the company will enter the hardware market. Posted on its website, the job description for an industrial designer described the company as being "traditionally a software company," but one who has become "frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space."

Later in the listing, the company said that "Even basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven't really changed in any meaningful way over the years."

Earlier this year, Valve said that it was a "long way from shipping any sort of hardware," and that the boxes the firm had previously put together were for internal testing only. In a separate interview, Valve co-founder and managing director Gabe Newell responded to whether the company would ever consider a future in selling hardware.

"Well, if we have to sell hardware, we will. We have no reason to believe we're any good at it; it's more we think that we need to continue to have innovation. And if the only way to get these kind of projects started is by us going and developing and selling the hardware directly, then that's what we'll do," said Newell.

Despite numerous rumours and speculation, to date, Valve has made no official announcements that it is working to produce a gaming device.
