Square Enix announced today that it is porting its 1999 PlayStation role-playing game, Valkyrie Profile, to the PSP. The game will be renamed Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, and it is slated for release in Japan on March 2.

Square Enix is also developing a new Valkyrie Profile for release on the PlayStation 2 in 2006, titled Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria. While information on the title is currently scarce, the latest issue of Shonen Jump reveals first details. The game will take place in the same world as the original Valkyrie Profile, albeit several hundred years earlier. The city of Dipan, which was a ruined realm in the original Valkyrie Profile, will be appearing as a prosperous kingdom. The magazine hints that Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria may reveal what led to the Dipan's downfall.

In Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria, the player takes the role of two characters named Silmeria and Alisha, who coexist within the same body. Silmeria is a Valkyrie and the younger sister of Lenneth, the hero of the original Valkyrie Profile. Alisha is the kindhearted princess of Dipan. As punishment for angering the god Odin, he traps Silmeria's soul into the body of Alisha, and the game tells their story.

Square Enix will open a teaser site for the two Valkyrie Profile games on December 12 at the currently dead URL http://www.square-enix.co.jp/vp/. Additional details on the games will be provided via updates on the site.
