Users report save-corrupting bug in Pokemon X and Y

Rare bug appears to be caused by saving in Lumiose City.

Numerous players across social media and forums are reporting a game-breaking bug in Pokemon X and Y.

The bug relates to players saving in Lumiose City, the game's capital and largest city. Players affected by the bug are said to be unable to load their save files, with no apparant solution other than deleting and starting over.

Nintendo is yet to acknowledge the existence of the bug.

Both American and European versions of the game are said to be affected, alongside physical and digital copies of the game.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y launched last week, and have sold over four million copies worldwide since launch.

Will this be able to be fixed in new copies or patched?

I am only asking because I plan on buying Pokemone X or Y and a 3DS sometime in the next few months

Luckily, we're in the age of sleep mode. I think I saved twice before beating the game and realizing the post-game content was awful.

Maybe it's just me who's getting old, but I honestly don't remember every major release having game breaking bugs like this 10-15 years ago.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Actually a lot of older games had bugs in them. NES, SNES, N64, GCN, PS1, PS2, etc... It's just that not everyone found out about them, or they happened in games that you couldn't save in in the first place.

Heck, the other day I was playing Mega Man X3 for old times sake, and one of the bosses got stuck BEHIND the wall. At first I thought I would have to reset, but after shooting at the wall for about 20-30 minutes, I was finally able to hit him enough to take him out...

<< LINK REMOVED >> Plus we didnt have social media 10-15 years ago to find every little issue with every game. It's like the missingno error in Pokemon Red, you didn't hear that from the internet, you needed to find that out from your friends and word of mouth. It's just the era we live in now where every little thing a game does wrong is critiqued to no end. Luckily games are able to put out patches now. Also don't forget games are so much bigger than they were 10-15 years ago, so much more time has to be spent on such a larger game it's very easy to overlook small things(Not saying this is a small thing, but I could have been a simple fix that was overlooked). The power of media!

@001011000101101 Actually Pokemon Green was a bug in itself, it's why it never got released here. Didn't help that unlike the localized Blue version and the Red version in both regions, Green had terrible sprites.

Also the save bug is in the Japanese version, I seen videos with the same issues from Japanese users.

<< LINK REMOVED >> No, it's just your memory. I assure you there were game breaking bugs even before that "10-15 years ago". do a small google search, or even scan youtube for game breaker bugs in older games. There are plenty to find.

@001011000101101 Bugs were more acceptable 10-15 years ago and we were more tolerable because after a game launch, patching and updates weren't possible unless it was PC and even that was limited. Personally, I believe the connectivity of today has introduced a level of laziness and carelessness because. We are too aware that a patch or fix can be issued out easily on a grand scale if there are in fact bugs.

Also at that time on the developers side, they couldn't afford to release a game that wouldn't work after a certain point because there was no such thing as a second chance after the game released.

With respect to Pokemon X and Y, this rare bug isn't that bad compared to glitches/bugs that occur in other games.

<< LINK REMOVED >> This seems like the first major Nintendo handheld botch since the epic GBC Bionic Commando: Elite Forces game breaking save/load bug, whenever you inevitably got down to no extra lives. A bug which it seems no batch of carts ever fixed.

Sounds worse than the berry glitch in R/S.

I have a question though. On the home page the subtitles says "All copies of the game reported to be affected by bug that can corrupt save files" but here on the article is says "rare bug". So does it affect everyone playing the game or just a random few?

How does a bug like this make it past a team checking for these things ? Seriously this is beyond horrible quality control. We are talking about something that people will do all the time. My gosh.

Savecorruptor, the new bug-type Pokemon. I hope it learns Recover. Or at least Substitute.

What's with these game-breaking bugs, Nintendo? There was the cannon room one in Twilight Princess, Golo the Gamebreaker in Skyward Sword, and now this...

Ah well. At the very least, all of the above are glitches/bugs that can be repeatedly reliably, so it's fairly easy to avoid them. Kinda reminds me of the ME2 save corruption when the PS3 version first came out.

@Yomigaeru In Twilight Princess's defense you have to do some tricky things to cause that game breaking bug by glitching the game which takes some skills. Its not like Pokemon where you save in a particular town and its broken, you could be a complete idiot and be able to break the game.

I saw a tweet with a link to a post mentioning a potential fix for the bug. First step: Load the game. Second: Wait until the music starts. Third: Mash the Home button until it works.

The poster mentioned it took them 5 minutes for the method to work, but a few users that commented on the post mentioned it happened much sooner for them. So if nothing else, try that.
