US PC Game Charts: April 2-8

Elder scrolls continues its reign over the top 10, followed by WOW, Sims 2, Star Wars: Empire at War.

The month started on a Saturday this year, with a bevy of weekend Saturday April Foolishness. However, the following week it was back to business as usual--which, if you were a seller of PC games, would mean moving a lot of copies of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Yes, for the second week in a row, Bethesda's popular role-playing game dominated the PC charts. Once again, it outpaced longtime champ World of Warcraft, which remained in the number two slot. Right behind it were two other now-perennial members of the PC top 10: The Sims 2 (fourth) and The Sims 2: Open for Business (third).

Real-time strategy was also well represented on this week's PC charts. LucasArts' Star Wars: Empire at War stayed steady at number five, just ahead of Microsoft's resurgent Age of Empires III, which jumped from 10th to sixth place.

The week's other top RTS was Electronic Arts' Lord of the Rings: Battle For Middle-earth II. It came in eighth, just ahead of another film-inspired EA title, The Godfather, and EA's original shooter Battlefield 2. Last but not least was 2K Games' Civilization IV at number 10.

What's the problem with the EA games in the top 10? The difference between EA games made for consoles, and EA games made for the PC, is that EA games on the PC are actually good titles. And nearly none of them are sports titles. BF2, Sims 2 and BFM2 are amazing games.

Who cares about the chart, if u look at the top rated games Chrno Cross isnt up there!!!! @_@ i loved that game! Not surprising Oblivion was 1st this week. You could send Oblivion IV to space and people would get pissed. You send World of Warcraft to space you will expect to see the end of the world

Ummm...Please people, publishers do not make the games, developers do. You should not judge a game by the publisher (in most cases), but rather by the developer...

"Now we know the 360 version of oblivion is responsible for a majority of the sales. Sims 2 which is number 1 sold about 230,000 copies and elder scrolls pc which was second was much further down which means of the 1.7 million bethesda shipped the 360 roughly sold 1.5 million copies of elder scrolls." These are PC sales. The Xbox 360 wasn't even mentioned. Also, Sims 2 isn't even the number 1 sold game for this particular week. Finally. Proof that the Xbox 360 sold 1.5 million copies? I'd like to see it.

Yeah, Oblivion knocked WoW off, but I don't see it staying that way for too long. I felt that Oblivion was highly overrated and people will soon find this out and the sales with start slacking. But then again, some games sell regardless.

I need to play AOE, SW:Empire at War, and Oblivian. LOTR: BFMEII well deserves to be on that list. WOW is a no brainer for the list.

I'm not a big EA fan, you can't argue with success. "Numbers don't lie, people do". The Godfather turn out to be better than I expected..it's actually pretty good.

EA sells more, the same way that the worst artists sell more music albums, and the worst movies get more money, because people don't have information, and buy any crap that mainstream media throws at them. And these people will keep thinking they are playing the best games, because they are playing what the other uninformed people play, they will keep thinking they are listening to the best musics, cause that is what every idiot listen, and will be sure that they are watching the best movie just because the theaters are full. This way they will never learn the truth, and will live a happy life of ignorance.

"damn WOW has been on the list for nearly 2 and a half years..." WRONG!! WOW was released on Nov 23, 2004. That was one and a half years ago, not two. Silly rabbit.

Well, EA still does make money by having fools buying their products. Doesn't mean everybody thinks they make good games. Still, don't forget that The Sims will always be a strong seller for EA, so it's normal that it's in the top. IT NEVER LEAVES THE DAMN TOP!

Blizzard is laughing themselves all the way to the bank! They'll probably start thinking about making a new game once WoW eventually drops to off the top 10.

"Funny how many people come on these forums and new blogs and say that EA only makes junk games and yet.... EA hold 5 of top 10. I would think that EA knows what they're doing if they can have those kinds of sales. (select an action below)" Fire enough bullets and you'll hit something.
