US console charts: September 5-11

I see gamespot still hasn't reported on the Final Fantasy 12 prequel game that has been announced for the DS. Square-enix is supporting the DS in droves. The games have sold well on the DS. Well the one psp game so far released bombed and Crisis Core looks it will do the same. Square-enix may very well decide to put it's next final fantasy games on the wii if the PS3 loses a lot of support which is looking like a distinct possibility.

Why are people are paying more than $30 for a DS game that is made with cost like a NES game with graphics a bit better? I'll never know. At least one next-gen game is there. Without it, I would died after seeing all those DS games up there.

That list is pretty predictable, but lego starwars 2 is doing awesome, as it is on the 5-11 console charts when it comes out on the 12th. Now THAT is good sales, being in the top ten in sales when it hasn't even come out yet. PS: When did the sony trash talk start? A flame war already,god this is starting to get ridiculous. The DS cart shortage continues. Nintendo cannot produce enough game carts for their games and the third parties. Yup Nintendo makes the DS game carts then hands them out to the third parties who ordered them. Phantasy Star Universe shows every sign of falling off the top ten with the PSP title repeating the pattern next week. Rhythm Tengoku made by the guys who made Warioware and it's titles are still riding strong due to tv commericals and word of mouth. Cooking Navi looks like it might be another million seller. Tingle is doing surprisngly well. Mario Basketball is still going strong in a country that doesn't like Basketball or games based on the sport.

psp has not yet even surpassed ds from day one then you got ds lite which has flew passed psp big time when the onyx ds and the pink lites are out sony will have to try harder then that 249.99 bundle (has stupid game called atv somthing and 1 gb memstick and umd movie not worth it lol nice try sony maybe when you bring the price down not the value then ill replace mine , i need a new mem card mine got stuck in a budget truck and i do not care cause i hate products that are lame , psp still hasnt even caught gb yet with sales of 89 million you add the sales of ds and dslite to this , better get a calculator and compare this to the 9 million-10 million sony only has that sony thinks dropping the price means to drop value lol again nice try to fool us 199.99$ still not worth it if you gotta buy memcard and all the extras included in the original value pack thatll cost more then 249.99 right there

New Super Mario Bros a 'proper' game ??? i got it with my Black DS Lite last week and i completed it in a day, a day? that is NOT a proper game. I took it back and got Mario Kart DS instead. It shouldn't be at the top of any chart of any kind.

Bestbuy had a buy two DS games get one free deal going on last week. I got Lost Magic for free. Got Tetris for my neice who is 11 she needs to be introduced to tougher games. Got a preorder for Phantom Hourglass before they stopped allowing preorders to count in the deal. But Tetris, Brain Age, New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS, Star Command were all eligable. Also they had a ds lite brain age deal as well.

You know, there's always argument about how these charts only support BestBuy's sales numbers, but perhaps people should look at it this way. Specialty gaming retailers like GameStop cater to the gaming crowd in general, but more particularly to us gamers who like having a store specifically devoted to all aspects of gaming, a store with associates that can and usually already know a helluva' lot about upcoming games and consoles, as well as current titles and even retro titles. Best Buy, on the other hand, represents an extremely mainstream retailer, one riding a major popularity wave since the turn of the millenium. They have plenty of different games, but you're not likely to get the kind of gaming-focused customer service that you would at specificied game retailers. They don't cater to hardcore gamers...they cater to the crowd who think of gaming as a side-note, not the end-all be-all. THEREFORE. If DS titles (and particularly NSMB) continue to dominate what can be understood as mainstream sales charts, holding sway over even the extremely popular mainstream juggernaut of Madden, that tells you something about the DS formula. It works. It works big time. Because casual gamers far outnumber hardcore gamers like the rest of us, even if hardcore gamers are generally the ones making the majority of games-related purchases. They are a large market that is finally being tapped by a console and a game that are also close to the hearts of hardcore gamers. Initially, it seemed the PSP, despite its price, would attain more mainstream success than the different and unique Nintendo DS. It was stylish, designed to play minature movies, and capable of acting as an MP3 player. Yet Nintendo stands tall on both sides of the spectrum, and it's really neat to finally see a convergence in the interests of the two gaming personality-types.

Wow, I really admire the staying power of NSMB. But then again, this 'US Console Charts' is based only on BestBuy.com's chart, so I'm not entirely sure if this really represents the REAL US Console Charts.
