Uncharted Series Director Being Honored With BAFTA Award

Amy Hennig is receiving a "Special Award" for being "one of the industry's most successful and respected creative leaders."

Amy Hennig, a writer/creative director on the first three Uncharted games at Naughty Dog who now works at Electronic Arts on Star Wars, will be honored by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). She will receive a BAFTA "Special Award," the group announced this week.

She'll be handed the award at an evening in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 12, which is just before the start of E3 2016.

Hennig has worked in the video game industry for almost 30 years. Before joining Naughty Dog, she worked at Crystal Dynamics on the Soul Reaver/Legacy of Kain series.

"Amy is one of the industry's most successful and respected creative leaders, and we are thrilled to recognize her outstanding contribution through this special award--one of BAFTA's highest accolades," BAFTA Games Committee chairman Harvey Elliot said in a statement.

"Her work in the games industry spans nearly three decades, and throughout this illustrious career she has championed the importance of a game's script, with this creative vision pervading all her work." he added. "We look forward to celebrating this much-deserved award with her."

Hennig was writing Uncharted 4: A Thief's End before being replaced by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley. According to a report, Hennig was "forced out," though Naughty Dog has since denied this was the case. As a result of Hennig's departure, about eight months of work was reportedly thrown out as the new directors went in something of a different direction.

A line from Uncharted 4's credits sequence honors Hennig and her contributions to the game.

A month after leaving Naughty Dog in 2014, Hennig joined EA where she is now working on Dead Space developer Visceral Games' new Star Wars project. This game has yet to be formally announced, but is rumored to be an open-world title.

Hennig holds a B.A. in English Literature from U.C. Berkeley.

Wish she stayed for Uncharted 4.

Good for her! The whole series has been great.

Well done to her. First three games were great and interesting stories.,but so is the 4th.

Stanley and Druckman have carried on well too though.

deserves it for fantastic labor work, she went through high waters and lived, totally deserve it, not for the success of the game alone but also for the type of effort she put on all her work (=

Deserves it just for Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver. Some of my favorite games ever. They could do with a remaster though.

i would say she deserves it .. The uncharted series (even 4 since she had a small hand in that) is the best series in a long time and she was brilliant in the first two..

i think she is going to do wonderful things with the new star wars game (i hope).

Congrats - for some reason I've always pictured Amy in my head to be around mid 30's with ginger hair than in her 50s.

congrats although i wouldve loved to see wat her version of Uncharted 4 wouldve been like cuz UC4's campaign & story was better than 3's but at the same time it felt underwhelming. Uncharted 2 to me is still the best

@senorbusyman: I still don't understand the whole idea that Uncharted 2 is the best of the franchise. Uncharted 3 and 4 blow it out of the water. U3 brought so much innovation and action compared to U2, and U4 took everything the franchise already had and gave it a dark, charismatic feel.

Congratulations. Well deserved.

Wow, didn't know she worked on the Legacy of Kain story - that was amazing!! Good on her, she deserves it.

Well earned I'd say. Some pretty damn nice names to be credited to, in their prime no less.

Legacy of Kain was stellar, before SE and Psyonix dripped their stupidity all over it with Nosgoth. I still laugh just thinking about that mess of a game. At least they put it out of our misery before it was openly loosed on the world.

I would almost have a sliver of faith in whatever Star Wars thing she's doing at EA, if EA itself was not involved. I'm sure by the game's release, they will have trampled all over whatever she may have come up with and be sure the "worthless pile of overpriced money sucking garbage" EA brand is freshly burned into it. Ready for the mindless Star Wars masses to buy it and eat it right up like Battlefront.

In any case, congrats to Hennig. Sorry to hear you ended up at EA. Get out while you can.

Uc4's story was good but after the last of us I was a little let down.

I know they're two different style stories but still.

Good. Legacy of Kain still has the best story in all of gaming.
