Not only did Naughty Dog share the world premiere of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End gameplay during the PlayStation Experience last weekend, but the developer also gave fans a deep look into how the power of the PlayStation 4 has allowed the studio to significantly boost Nathan Drake's visual appearance.
During the panel, "Modeling Nathan Drake: Bringing an Iconic Character to PS4," Naughty Dog artists and modelers offered a behind-the-scenes look at how they built the new version of Drake. Uncharted fans will definitely want to watch the hour-long video.
As part of the presentation, the Naughty Dog staffers revealed a series of images of the Drake character model for Uncharted 4, and also some Uncharted 3 comparisons. Check out the image gallery above to see the nearly 20 images, and be sure to click each thumbnail to see a full-size version.
Overall, Naughty Dog says it was aiming for a "filmic, cinematic" look for Uncharted 4. As such, the studio has gone to great lengths to make Drake--and presumably other characters--look and act lifelike in the game.
Drake's character model in Uncharted 4 depicts a more aged version of the well-known treasure hunter. His face is bruised and he looks pained. The PlayStation Experience presentation was focused on technical advancements, and not much about the game's story. However, Naughty Dog said previously that Uncharted 4 will be a "more personal" story that dives into "what kind of effect this journey has on [Drake] and the people around him."
The Drake model is so detailed that you can see sweat on his forehead, stubble, and even chest hair. Naughty Dog also points out that Drake has 850 possible facial animations in Uncharted 4, compared to 120 in Uncharted 3.
Uncharted 4 launches in 2015 exclusively for PS4. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
