Ultimate Fighting Championship Hands-On

You'd think it would be more difficult to merge this many different fighting styles into one engine, but Crave's Ultimate Fighting Championship does it with ease.

Comments

Crave's UFC game uses a Tekken-like button configuration, allowing you to control each limb separately. Multiple button presses are used for takedowns, counters, and submission holds. The resulting game is a very fast-moving fighter that looks as though it will eventually capture the slower, submission-style ground-fighting as well.

Graphically, UFC has a nice, smooth look both to its character models and its animation. The sound is also well-represented, right down to the referee's famous "Let's get it on" tagline. The game has a large roster of fighters, covering most of the major players in today's UFC scene, including middleweight champion Tito Ortiz. Other fighters include Frank Shamrock, Ron Waterman, and Maurice Smith.

The movement is easy, using the DC's analog pad to move you around the octagon in all directions. Overall, it looks as though this game could shape up to be one of the better simulation-style fighting games ever released.
