A new game based on James Cameron's Avatar is in the works at Ubisoft, but don't expect to get to play this game anytime soon. The publisher confirmed to IGN that the game won't be released until after the company's Fiscal year 2021 starts on April 1, 2020. The long-awaited Avatar movie sequel, Avatar 2, is coming to theatres in December 2020, which Ubisoft referenced in its statement.

"Avatar is one of the biggest and most powerful entertainment brands ... we have great plans for the new one, with a very strong studio and engine. The movie will be released end of 2020, so our game won't be released before FY21," the representative said.

Ubisoft's first Avatar game came out in December 2009 alongside Cameron's blockbuster. Ubisoft said in its statement to IGN that the game was profitable.

Almost nothing is known about Ubisoft's new Avatar game, apart from the fact that it is set on Pandora and will come to PC and consoles. No date has been set and no gameplay has been shown.

The new Avatar game is being developed by The Division studio Ubisoft Massive and a new Ubisoft studio called Ubisoft Stockholm. Last August, Ubisoft announced that it hired Battlefield veteran Patrick Bach to lead the team, which is on a hiring spree.

Last week, Ubisoft announced its E3 2018 game lineup and teased that more games may get announced during the show; one of these could be a new Splinter Cell.
