Ubisoft has identified one of the issues causing open-world action Assassin's Creed Unity to crash, and has now provided a set of instructions you can follow to get around the problem.

In a post on the Unity Live Updates page, Ubisoft said the issue affects all versions of the game and is triggered at the main menu after players press the Continue button. Ubisoft says it is "working hard" on a final fix for the crash issue, but in the meantime it has published details for a workaround you can follow.

You can take the following steps to prevent a crash:

  • Do not add any IN-GAME RECENT PLAYER as a GAME CONTACT
  • If you already have GAME CONTACTS, perform the following to remove them: My Brotherhood > My Contacts > Game Contacts (using RB/R1) > Focus on a Contact (LS) > More Actions (Y/Triangle) > Remove from contacts.

Players who continue to experience the Unity crash bug after following the above instructions are asked to reach out to Ubisoft through the company's support website.

Following Unity's release last week, players reported a number of technical issues, and Ubisoft has been quick to respond. The company has fixed some of these, including the "No Face" bug, while it is still investigating frame rate issues. Unity's troubled launch has led to Ubisoft announcing last week that it will change its policies with regards to how it operates with critics and gamers alike.

For more on Unity, check out GameSpot's review and what other critics are saying.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Nah, burned bridge is a burned bridge. I'll avoid Ubisoft period. If they notice a massive drop in their stock maybe they'll step their game up. Waiting for bug patches won't wake these sacks up.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Patience is different than releasing an unfinished game. I think I speak for everyone when I say we wouldn't have cared to wait another 2 weeks/month/even another quarter for a bug free-ish, playable, enjoyable game at launch.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> The lost patience in this case is the impatience of the stockholders of ubisoft, they demand a green number, so ubi says well then we have to release game on a specified date to have the sales numbers in at a specific time so the game game has to go out the door no matter what state its in. Then the masses of gamers who absolutly need to get games on release day drive the false demand. Sure there are gamers like you and I that dont need to get a game at the 12:01 gamestop launch but there are not enough of us.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I will agree with you here. Consumers have patience, it is the board and holders forcing the current 6 month/yearly roll outs. We all need to take a step back and make them realize we don't want the new phone, watch, console, electronic so quickly, but rather a well built, long lasting item.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Yea I would love a quality lasting product too, but I dont think enough consumers have patience, ive observed that a lot people are also insecure about how they are seen by the eyes of their peers, and most people need to get these new gadgets, just because their friends are getting them and they dont want to feel left out. But it turns out that their friends are only getting them because they also feel the same way. So it turns into a feedback loop that allows companys to produce garbage quality products.

I have loved every AC game so far including AC Rogue and I am kind of obsessed with the franchise.

And I just started playing Unity today morning, got bored in first couple hours. This game is a nightmare! I could tell already what happens in the story, and the entire driving force set in the game in the beginning is "yawn", and oh my god glitches galore! Gotta sell the disc although I am not sure if I will have luck with it.

Going to buy DA: Inquisition and play the heck of it.

I hate Destiny and Unity this year.

If you like the game, give it a bit more of a shot... I enjoy the open ended missions " black box" structure quite a bit so far, its a nice addition to the series for sure, and one thats not used much til about sequence 4.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Nah, "back in the day" game still having lot glitch and bugs too: Septerra core, vampire the masquerade bloodlines...As making games getting more complicated, so are the numbers of bugs. Still, for big company like Ubisoft to release a product like that is quite embarrassing.

Before: we fix the game good then we release it.

Now: we release the framework for the game then we patch in the necessary parts later.

Its the internet fault games where fine be for this. they think they can release a game early then finish it later threw patches. this has to stop and think it about time the government stepped in and re do the rules or heavy fines should start for unfinished and bugged games. especially if not fixed by a certain time period .

<< LINK REMOVED >> yeah those a-holes, working 12-15 hours a day, some of them even sleep at work or work all night, some don't see their families most of the week.

Not dev fault, they basically slave for publisher - get underpaid, work long hours (don't get paid for overtime either), some of them don't even bother to go home to get that 5 hour sleep, bosses fire random peoples as punishment if they can't keep up with impossible schedule. It's hell, but they can't quit because they have to feed their families. And it's not just Ubisoft - all major publishers do that. This is next generation gaming industry.

How about Ubisoft not release a broken game next year, or ever again, and don't hold a review embargo 12 hrs after release. Unity is a loss cause a game that Ubisoft released knowingly that it was broken.

Note to self never buy an Ubisoft game with a release day Embargo

That's a bit too much work. After trial and error, I found a much better way to fix this and many of the other bugs plaguing this game. I call it the "Don't Buy It Until They Fix This POS" fix. You can PM me for the details.

Seriously though, for those who bought the game, I feel for you guys. This really is unacceptable. I think some compensation is in order.
