Ubisoft Rabbid for new franchise

French publisher liberates homicidal maniacs from sextuple-platinum Rayman series; Rabbids Go Home for Wii leads efforts this holiday.

Upon the Wii's launch in 2006, Ubisoft successfully revitalized its aging action-platforming Rayman franchise by introducing the undeniably adorable, yet criminally insane, Rabbids. Three full installments across multiple platforms later, and the Rabbids are officially striking out on their own.

It's a brave, new world, rabbids.
It's a brave, new world, rabbids.

Ubisoft said today that its Rayman-free Rabbids franchise would debut this holiday season with Rabbids Go Home. The Wii title is in development at Ubisoft's Montpellier studio, whose previous credits include Beyond Good & Evil, Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie, and the original Rayman Raving Rabbids.

Details on Rabbids Go Home are still largely under wraps. Ubisoft did provide a brief plot synopsis, however, saying that the adventure game will see the off-kilter Rabbids run amok on Earth as they attempt to return to their homeworld. According to the publisher, additional details on the title are expected to be revealed next month.

According to Ubisoft, the Rayman Raving Rabbids series has now sold more than 6.5 million units. For more on the latest installment--the Wii Balance Board-enabled Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party--check out GameSpot's review, as well as the gameplay footage below.

I heard something about this on a different site....and they were basically rabbid haters. This kinda looks good but I hope they make a Rayman 4 in the future. Maybe this is a sign of Rayman 4 of happening. If you guys want a Rayman 4 sign this then.... << LINK REMOVED >>

really? i hardly heard about these games, i do know about em... but i didnt know they sold that well? but then again... i will never understand why anyone would EVER!!! buy a game that is like 300 mini-games... not that this game has that many mini-games in it but seriously... just go to some free games flash site if that is what you need? no reason to found **** like this! you are runing the world by showing the masses that you will pay good money for stuff like this and that is why they will keep making **** like this!!! -_- fandom will be the end of this world, i'm sure of it! that or a nuclear war xD @ kavadias1981: well if people would just stop buying this **** then ubisoft wouldn't make em, because then they would lose money on making them... not that i guess it will cost them much to make those ****** games...

I want a Rayman game more like Rayman 3. One of my absolutely favorite games for PC. One of the best games I've ever played. Raving Rabbids is fun but I want the other part(Rayman 3 style) too. I hope this turns out good.

I'd rather see a non-minigame RAYMAN game rather than the Rabbids. Something in the vein of Rayman 2: The Great Escape. That would make me a very happy person. Also, Skullboy... I think about that every time I see something about a Rabbids game. It looked so good until they made it a mini-game collection.

The first Rabbid game was pretty good and then they just got worse with each sequel! Learn from your mistakes Ubisoft, dont keep making more new ones!

I lost all interest in the Rabbids after I beat the first, and realized it was a rather unfunny, boring minigame compilation. I didn't even bother with the second, and didn't realize there was a third until I read this article. Perhaps an actual game could breath some life into the Rabbids? Meh. Even if it's an absolutely terrible game, at least it won't be ANOTHER minigame compilation. I wager the Wii has a couple hundred of those now.

@Ianmanna They called it Rayman because people knew him from other games. It was only at this point that the Rabbids could stand on their own and be recognized as a "brand" of sorts. They used the Rayman name to make it more familiar to people.

Thank gosh! I don't get why they called it Rayman, since Rayman wasn't the focus since the first game. >_>

Well at least they're not calling it RAYMAN Rabbids Go Home. By the look's of the breif plot, this might be the last installment of Rabbids and back to Rayman. Maybe that's why there hasn't been any Rayman games: The Rabbids are trying to kidnapp him and torture him!

I love the Rabbids, but I'm not so big on party games. This game sounds interesting.

Rabbids were never actually part of the Rayman franchise. Ubisoft killed the game that would star Rayman and the Rabbids as soon as they made it a party game. Just because Rayman shows up for a little bit in Raving Rabbids doesn't mean it's part of the franchise.

Maybe the Rabbids will succeed in getting back to wherever they came from and we'll never see them again! Yay!

I long for the days of the old Rayman games. I wish the whole Rabbids thing went away after the first and it went down as a side story. Alas, no.

Sigh, what could have been if they stuck to the original design of the first game. -_-

I've been hoping for something like this for a while, since the first game. I got the first one, but didn't get the others, I might get them eventually but I'm in no rush TBH. I'd much rather have the rabbids get their own games, and hopefully Rayman go back to his regular style as well. I'm not saying that they have to stop the Rayman Raving Rabbids series all together, but if they do, I'd rather have them as side-games.

So does this mean Rayman will get some Rabbid-free games or is it just Rabbids getting Rayman-free games?

I always loved the Rabbids. I just had enough of mini-game collections. A proper adventure game is exactly what the Rabbids need to stay awesome.
