Ubisoft preps animated Assassin's Creed short
Ascendance to recount Ezio's journeys between second and third game in stealth action series, launching on PSN and XBL for $2 next week.
After introducing the Assassin's Creed franchise with the original 2007 action adventure game, Ubisoft has since expanded it to include novels, live-action films, and comics. Animation is the next medium on the hit list, as the publisher today announced the animated short story Assassin's Creed: Ascendance.
Set for release alongside next week's Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Ascendance will bring viewers up to speed on what protagonist Ezio Auditore has been up to since the end of Assasssin's Creed II. Along the way, Ubisoft has promised to reveal the backstory of antagonist Ceasare Borgia's rise to power. Assassin's Creed: Ascendance will launch on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live for $1.99.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's single-player component sees Ezio assuming control of an assassin network, commanding the combined effort to rid Rome of its corruption and the Templar order. In the multiplayer mode, players will apparently be able to align themselves with the pharmaceutical company Abstergo--which kidnapped the series' contemporary protagonist Desmond--and aid the Templar order. Players will have a range of characters to choose from in multiplayer, each of which has signature weapons and assassination techniques.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will launch November 16 in North America and November 18 in Europe on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PC version of the game is slated to follow early next year.
