Two Worlds 3 Announced, Two Worlds 2 Getting New Engine and More DLC

Third game to be developed over period of 36 months; new engine allows for "much higher level of character landscape detail."

125 Comments

Big news for the Two Worlds franchise, as publisher TopWare Interactive has announced that Two Worlds III is now in development, while Two Worlds II is getting new DLC and a "major" update to its engine.

TopWare made the announcement on Facebook this week. A third game in the Reality Pump-developed series should come as no real surprise, as the first two games have sold a combined 10 million units.

It is still early days for Two Worlds III, as it's in the "concept stage," TopWare said. It is expected to have a 36-month development schedule, and TopWare said fans should "keep an eye out" for more news later.

As for the other piece of Two Worlds news, TopWare has announced a "major engine update" for Two Worlds II, which it will use not only to "lay down the basics" for the third game, but also to release new DLC for Two Worlds II. The DLC will include eight new multiplayer maps and two single-player expansions, titled Call of the Tenebrae and Shattered Embrace.

Call of Tenebrae is set to come out at the end of Q2 2016. It "focuses on the Hero's return to Antaloor, where he witnesses the shocking murder of DarPha. The killers are a never-before-seen tribe of hideous, rat-like creatures known only as 'The Chosen.' who control a mysterious, powerful new magic. Their genocidal plot threatens every living creature in Antaloor, and it's up to the Hero to find a way to stop them."

Thanks to the new engine, players can "expect to experience Antaloor like never before with the new engine update for Two Worlds II."

The new Two Worlds engine, which will also be available for Linux and Steam OS, overall allows for a "much higher level of character landscape detail," TopWare said. It will also add "an HD-GUI, in addition to tons of in-game achievements, co-op multiplayer, and lots of new in-game features and upgrades."

I never played the first one, I heard it was terrible. Angry Joe's review on Two Worlds II convinced me to buy it, on sale. It really wasn't that bad, it was actually was quite enjoyable, bad physics, bugs, wonky animations and all. I'll probably play it again with the new engine, depending on how they go about selling it ( i doubt they'll give it away for free, like Divinity: Original Sin).

These could actually be good if they weren't so janky. I mean they're not as janky as Risen but they're still janky enough that it makes you not want to waste your time on them.

@txuzai: I never played the sequel, but the first game was probably one of the worst X360 titles I've ever played. I heard they released numerous patches that improved the game a fair bit, though.

@n0pe: The first game was a really really REALLY deep game and had some pretty damn amazing character customization on a level that was pretty impressive. That being said the biggest hindrance to both of the games was the fact that they were disastrously buggy so much so that it affected the games in a majorly negative way.

If you however managed to look past those bugs they were very enjoyable RPG's and two worlds 2 magic system and magic crafting system still to this day have not had anyone match its depth. I for one am excited but i am also going to wait a bit after the engine update before i dive back in to see how buggy it is.

Never played the series, but heard some good things about it. Maybe if these come to current gen or bc might give it a go.

I remember playing Two Worlds 1's demo for infinity.

Two Worlds II was fun at first, but I was too attracted to other games, good to see it's getting a new version, will definitely buy it if the price makes sense.

@silversix_:

What's the point of you comment. Destiny has nothing to do with this. I find it amazing how pathetic some gamers act when they don't like a specific game. Just because you don't like a game doesn't mean you have to bash it. My goodness. Some games need to quit being so petty.
