Two More Xbox One Backward Compatible Games Now Available

Set off some fireworks in Boom Boom Rocket.

Two more Xbox 360 games are now playable on Xbox One, Microsoft announced today.

Syberia and Boom Boom Rocket are the newest additions to the backward-compatible list. You can now purchase either game to play on Xbox One, or if you already own them, they should show up in the Ready to Download list of the My Games and Apps area. If you have a physical copy of Syberia, it'll be playable following an update that will download after popping in your disc.

Boom Boom Rocket is a rhythm game released for Xbox Live Arcade way back in 2007. It was developed by the now-defunct Bizarre Creations, the studio responsible for Project Gotham Racing and Geometry Wars. Syberia is an acclaimed adventure game from Microids that first debuted on PC in 2002.

Each game costs $10 on the Xbox Store. You can grab them through the links below.

Xbox One's backward-compatibility support saw a major addition recently when support for Red Dead Redemption was introduced. You can check out a full list of every backward-compatible game on Xbox One here.

Boom Boom Rocket was basically Guitar Hero, featuring only classical music, set to a fireworks show (hit the correct button when the "firework" hits the score line), and got so hard that you'd feel like throwing your Xbox into a wood chipper. I seriously salute anybody who gets scores in that game on the higher difficulties.

who the hell asks for this C***... give us the BC games we are asking for, not the junk that no one wants (or will play)

@basskill2000: pardon me but I am one who is happy to see Syberia become BC as well as the eventual Syberia II.

@basskill2000: While I agree I'd like to see more big non-arcade BC games, there's a reason why games like this are added more frequently.

They're less demanding on the hardware, and thus easier to run within the emulator, without performance issues. RDR plays great on Xbone, but it seems like it took months of work to get it there.

@Spartan_418: And probably easier to get the go ahead on these. Overall BC to MS is probably more about being able to quote a number at press conferences and in news rather than the specific titles :).

Avatar image for basskill2000
basskill2000

@Spartan_418: agreed, just wish they would focus more on the games we want and release more of the more frequently instead of a high frequency of junk titles just to 'show we are working on BC titles'

I would rather see a less frequent release frame, with better titles.

@basskill2000: People would complain either way.

I for one am happy they have teams working on a variety of titles, including both major and minor releases. The more games, the better.

Avatar image for basskill2000

@LPDisturbedHU: again, agreed. I am happy they are working on both minor and major titles.

My own Personal opinion is that the Minor titles are just jobber style ones just to make it look like they are still progressing. It would be more appealing to see some more Minor titles that actually have some leverage and appeal to people.

again my own opinion. I am a xbox fan and happy they are doing work, just think it could have been used on other games.

@basskill2000: "My own Personal opinion is that the Minor titles are just jobber style ones just to make it look like they are still progressing."

Exactly. This is one of the games dropped in the first two years of MS product cycle for the 360, as an arcade release, with basic physics and display requirements. I am betting that they ported this and a few other simple titles before they ever even announced BC, and have held it in reserve while they work on games that draw more processor power. Now they can pad their lists of newly ported BC games. But at least they HAVE BC. Think of all those poor pissed off PS4 owners with a backlog of PS3 games. But try not to laugh at them too hard. They are gamers, too.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, please. 25th Anniversary, yada yada, just stop giving us crap no one ever heard of.

@Maxx_the_Slash: If you've never heard of Syberia 1 or 2 you need to get out of your "Call of Duty haze" occasionally.

@t1000_v2: Who says I play Call of Duty? I've been playing Xenoblade X and Pokken Tournament on my Wii U and DOA5 Last Round and Fallout 4 on my Xbox One. I own the two Wii U ports of Call of Duty but never played them for a single minute as of yet.

Syberia was a nice quest/adventure. A bit old school, sure, but entertaining nonetheless.

Syberia is a nice addition to the bc catalog, I'd rather pay the $10 to get the download rather than have to worry with the disk, also my disk is probably the Xbox version. Don't know anything about Boom Boom Rocket.

Avatar image for dlCHIEF58

@waelse1: It would be the original Xbox version as it was never released in disc form on the 360.

Microsoft must really be hurting with the bundles and price drops they have announced recently. They really need to start announcing some quailty AAA non digital backwards compatible games soon to sway people into buying their remainder 500gb xbox ones before scorpio and s hit the shelves.

@zombieseesmeat: Yes MS/Atari, pretty please. I salivate just imagining playing it without that terrible screen tear. Besides the ending, it was the only thing that detracted from the experience.

Boom boom rocket is a fun rhythm game. Not many rhythm games were produced that worked with just the game pad. The DLC rock music has cool rock version of songs.

I am just wondering if the backward compatibility will introduce input delays since this games requires very precise timing.

Avatar image for alightningboldt

@dinb: it shouldn't. Haven't had input lag with any other BC title.
