Two very different top-down shooters.

As part of its ongoing effort to get more users into its relatively new PC storefront, Epic is offering another pair of free games this week. This time it's Nuclear Throne and Ruiner; to get your free games, log into your Epic Games Store account, go to their store pages, and add them. After that, they're completely yours.

Nuclear Throne is a stylized roguelike with top-down shooting action, and it's received generally positive reviews on GameSpot sister site Metacritic. Similarly, Ruiner is a top-down (though isometric) shooter set in the cyberpunk future of 2091.

"Ruiner creates a future teeming with interesting concepts, fascinating people and hidden despair," wrote David Rayfield in GameSpot's review. "But it is the combat which stands front and centre. Through the endless bodies that fall by your hand, the grim layers of the story peel away to divulge a few surprises about the meaning of life, death and revenge. It is a revealing journey that's well worth taking but it is apparent from the opening scene to the mysterious finale, the only thing that is pure and absolute in the world of Ruiner is murder."

Both games are only free for a limited time, so you'll want to grab them quickly. They'll be up for grabs until November 14, at which point they'll be replaced by The Messenger.
