Now Playing: RIVE - Launch Trailer

Original story follows.

Twin-stick shooter Rive's Wii U version has been canceled, developer Twin Tribes has announced. The company has revealed the game will come to Nintendo Switch instead, though no release date has been confirmed.

The shoot-'em-up was previously delayed for Wii U, with Twin Tribes telling Nintendo Life at the time, "We won't release Rive unless it's a solid 60 FPS, and if that means delaying it to a future platform, we will make that call and make sure Nintendo fans get the perfect experience." That version has now been canceled in favor of a Switch edition that runs at a smooth 60 FPS.

Rive originally launched on PlayStation 4 and PC late last year. We enjoyed it here at GameSpot--critic Daniel Starkey awarded it an 8/10.

"Rive is demanding," reads our full review. "But it pushes the kind of near-thoughtless play that shoot-'em-ups strive to achieve. When faced with an onslaught of enemies and environmental hazards, you'll have to think fast or die. Rive also doesn't run all that long, but what's here is excellent, top-notch action, and the game delivers some of the most memorable moments in a shoot-'em-up in years."

Nintendo Switch launches on March 3, priced at US $300/£280/AU $470. Eleven games are coming at launch: Skylanders Imaginators, 1-2-Switch, Just Dance 2017, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, I Am Setsuna, Human Resource Machine, Little Inferno, World of Goo, Shovel Knight, Fast RMX, and Super Bomberman R.
