A high-profile video game organization has released a statement regarding the controversial travel policy from President Donald Trump that recently went into effect. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the group that organizes E3 every year and represents the video game industry's interests in Washington, said in its statement that this policy could adversely affect the US gaming industry.

"The Entertainment Software Association urges the White House to exercise caution with regard to vital immigration and foreign worker programs," the statement begins. "As a leading force in technology and exporter of entertainment, the U.S. video game industry thrives on the contributions of innovators and storytellers from around the world.

"While recognizing that enhancing national security and protecting our country's citizens are critical goals, our companies rely on the skilled talent of U.S. citizens, foreign nationals, and immigrants alike," the statement goes on. "Our nation's actions and words should support their participation in the American economy."

The American Civil Liberties Union estimates that upwards of 200 people at airports throughout the United States have been detained, according to GameSpot sister site CBS News. President Trump claims only 109 people out of 325,000 were held for questioning and that problems at airports were due to computer outages. The order, which was announced on Saturday, bans immigration from some Muslim countries, including Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and Iran.

Protests against the new travel policy are being held across the country. Go to CBS News to learn more.

ESA members include some of the biggest companies in gaming, including Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Take-Two, Warner Bros., Ubisoft, and Bethesda.
