Treyarch staffing up for Call of Duty project
Multiple job listings on Santa Monica developer's career portal point to studio crafting new COD entry; this November's game still TBA.
Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops was a huge blockbuster. The game has sold close to 14 million copies in the United States alone, besting Nintendo's Wii Play to become the top US game of all time by unit sales. Now, it appears the Santa Monica studio is soliciting development recruits for its next Call of Duty project.
The news stems from multiple job listings on Treyarch's career portal page that suggest the California studio is arming up for yet another Call of Duty title. One of the listings is for a gameplay combat designer, whose description rather explicitly confirms the studio is priming the next entry.
"This position reports into the Design Director for the Call of Duty multiplayer team at Treyarch," reads a line from the career description.
Additionally, the same job calls for its applicant to "design, develop, and tune game mechanics and features, largely in the area of combat systems (such as weapons and attachments) and gameplay mechanics (such as Perks and spawning)."
Another not-so-subtle hint comes in the form of a listing for a scripter that requires applicants to "be an expert on first-person shooters and trends of the genre."
Further, in May of last year Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia told Computerandvideogames that the developer was now a "100 percent Call of Duty studio." Previously, Treyarch developed various Spider-Man games and the James Bond game Quantum of Solace.
The critically praised Call of Duty: Black Ops was released in November 2010, which would make a November 2012 release likely for Treyarch's next Call of Duty.
As for this November's Call of Duty entry, that game has not yet been announced by publisher Activision. However, it is expected to be a collaborative effort from Activision studios Infinity Ward, Raven Software, and Sledgehammer Games.
