Treyarch Details New Call Of Duty Zombies Map: Firebase Z, Adds Perks

Surprise! The Dark Aether storyline is picking up in Zombies with a brand-new map.

Comments

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's latest Zombies map has been revealed. The map is called Firebase Z, and will go live during Season One starting February 4 as a freebie for all players. If you have fallen out of playing Zombies since it launched, it's the perfect time to jump back in. This is especially true if you want to see how the supernatural story continues to unfold, and find those Firebase Z Easter Eggs.

The Dark Aether storyline will continue through this map, instead of in Season Two as was originally implied. Following the destruction of the WWII-era "Projekt Endstation" site during investigations into the supernatural Dark Aether anomaly in Poland, Requiem is now focusing on a new Dark Aether outbreak site: Outpost 25, AKA Firebase Z.

As part of 115 Day celebrations on January 15, Treyarch revealed more information on Firebase Z. The map is set in Vietnam, and it sees Requiem and Omega battles against each other from the shadows as dimensional breaches threaten the planet. Omega has harnessed Dark Aether technology and has managed to find a way to send soldiers to harvest more Atherium from its source. Grigori Weaver and his Requiem team are attempting to rescue Agent Maxis from the Outpost 25 facility in this region.

A new perk called Tombstone Soda is also available beginning February 4. This perk will transform you into a shadow within the Dark Aether if you are downed, letting you have a better chance to survive. There are also new Artillery and Napalm strikes scorestreaks to use, as well as new intel to discover.

To get players going on Zombies, the mode will be available for free to all players via the Zombies Free Access Week from January 14-21. Additionally, the new Cranked mode, Onslaught Raid, and support for the Wakizashi sword in Zombies mode also launch on January 14. Alongside this free week in Zombies, Call of Duty will also be holding a double XP weekend event from January 15-18.

Players should also keep their eyes peeled for additional intel drops, as Treyarch noted that players should "keep an eye out for other intel out there ... you never know what you might uncover."

A black and white photo of a mechanical portal lighting up from within is right below this statement. There's a message in red ink written on the photo that reads: "M- New omega teleportation system connects village to omega facility. -R." Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War was revealed through an ARG and has continued dropping content through its ARG site Pawn Takes Pawn, so we may be looking at yet another clue in the Cold War mystery.
