Transistor Sells 1 Million-Plus Copies

Now Supergiant has two games that have sold more than 1 million copies.

Bastion developer Supergiant Games has announced that its second game, Transistor, has reached a new sales milestone. The 2014 PC and PlayStation 4 game has now sold more than 1 million copies.

That's up from 600,000, a figure that was announced in January 2015.

"We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to stick together as a team and with any luck keep making the kinds of games that resonate with you for a long time to come," Supergiant said in a blog post (via NeoGAF).

Supergiant's first game, Bastion, has sold more than 3 million copies.

"Word-of-mouth is what kept Bastion going for way, way longer than we could have imagined, and it's what's kept Transistor going strong, too," creative director Greg Kasavin said at the time. Kasavin is a former GameSpot senior editor.

Transistor is also available for iOS devices, though no Xbox versions have been announced. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review.

I love the hum button. Yes, this game has a button you can press that makes your character him to the background music.

So pretty.

Shockingly, I prefer this game on the PS4 over the PC. The sword's narrative and flashes can be heard and seen through the PS4 controller's speaker and light panel. It's simple, but adds a layer of immersion. You just need to change this in the in-game settings though as it is not on by default (if I remember correctly).

Yea this was an incredible experience playing it each time :) And it's too bad that the turn-based system in FF7 is completely gone. Something like this would be a great compromise between modern and classic.

Remember when they first released Bastion and were like "Yeah, great that you liked it, but we aren't gonna make any more videogames."?

Transistor is definitely an improvement over Bastion's rather shallow combat system (although was quite fun in it's own right). The story was a little similar to Bastion, but great nontheless. I really liked the interactions between protagonists.

I hope they make something a little more ambitious now. Maybe something like 3rd person game in full 3D. The art style for the games is great, but it does start to loose it's appeal after several hours of looking at it from the exact same perspective.

I would love to buy it if it came out on Xbox, but oh well guess my money will go to Cuphead and Below instead.

I loved the game, it's great to hear it's still selling well.

The music, art, story and atmosphere were amazing and I for one also enjoyed the combat, even if it took a little getting used to.

It was a decent game. Definitely not as good as Bastion though.

Liked the game (as I did Bastion) but the stories in those games was neither here nor there. I was kind of lost as to why I was supposed to give a shit.

The gameplay in both was great. The atmosphere, the voice acting, music all fantastic but I just didn't care about the characters or the worlds. Felt too much like I was just going through the paces. Plodding on to the end.

They didn't really pull me in.

The game is not available for Xbox One? That's news to me because i thought that this game was available for the one as well. Is beyond me why they didn't release it for the Xbox One as well, their packet would have been a lot bigger right now and they are basically shooting themself in the foot by not releasing it to the second best selling console in the market.

I'd be happy to add to that total if they released an xb1 version.

Bought it on steam sales and loved it but damn, waaaaay too short for a 18,99€ price (original price). Beat it in two sittings that last me 4h total. Indie games are getting more and more expensive by the day. I still remember when a indie game that lasted you no less than 10h was like 5€ or somethin. Even indie devs are getting greedy... tsk tsk

Much deserved. It seems like a great game and it's on sale at Steam now at 80 % off, but I think I'll wait on getting it since I have so many other games to play.

@Hurvl: If it helps, it's a pretty short game and well worth the 4 dollars.

I loved Bastion, but I hated this goddamn game. Tried to like it, gave it a few chances, just way too goddamn frustrating and tedious. I also thought that sword's comments every 2 seconds got pretty irritating.

I loved this game but I can understand it if some people found the combat system tedious. The Tron-like setting, voice work, narrative and upgrade customization system are what got me. Oh, also the music.

@elheber:

Initially maybe, but I enjoyed mixing and matching functions. I always had pretty decent combinations, so I always seemed to make my way through.

Certainly had to think about an approach though, balancing attack with retreat.

Does this count PS+ downloads? That's how I got it. I never know how that figures into sales numbers.

All the same, hat's off to them. Imperfect game, but I'm always happy to see very creative devs get the resources they need to continue.

Had the option to get it on PC or PS4...decided on PC since most of my games are there.

Went through Transistor twice, one of the best indie games I've ever played.

I own this game on PS4 but the combat really keeps me from playing it. More than decent art-style though, which is probably why it sold.

I got this on PS4 since day one, the art is beautiful in it's own right but the combat was a huge turn off and a pain in the ass, I didn't even bother to finishing Transistor at all to this day. Nevertheless, it's nice to see a game like this sell over $1 million and as much as I totally like Bastion, Transistor's combat was a letdown.

@davillain-: I found the combat to be a tad aggravating, but the world and story and music were all so amazingly crafted that I stuck with it. Might be worth your while to try to get into it again. I've had bad first experiences with certain games and then years later picked them back up and loved them.

Deserves more, this was a fantastic game as was Bastion. Can't wait for their next game, which unfortunately probably won't happen till 2017 at earliest

I bought it for 3.75 euros so reaching 1 million is kinda underwhelming when you make $2 per game
