Toys "R" Us, through its e-commerce web site, has introduced a unique sales bundle for the Sony PlayStation 2 launch on October 26. Consumers that are hoping to purchase the console at toysrus.com will pay US$499.99 for the entire PS2 package, which includes a PlayStation 2 console, one extra dual-shock controller, and three PS2 games and 2 DVD movies from selected lists. Interestingly, toysrus.com will not sell the PlayStation 2 as a stand-alone product.

At this time, the Toys "R" Us PlayStation 2 bundle is only available through its online store, as several Toys "R" Us retail outlets told GameSpot that they have not been informed of any such promotion and that they expect normal stand-alone sales. The PlayStation 2 console will sell also as a stand-alone product at other retailers such as Electronics Boutique, Babbages/Gamestop, Wal-Mart, and Target.

When contacted for comment, a SCEA representative told GameSpot that the Toys 'R Us PS2 bundle is not part of an official Sony promotion and the company has no plans to introduce any such offers for the PlayStation 2 launch. A representative at Toys 'R Us promotions also confirmed that to his knowledge the PS2 bundle is an exclusive Toys 'R Us offer.
