While the Yakuza (or Ryu ga Gotoku) series has earned positive reception and sold adequately well in North America, it is a hugely celebrated series in its homeland of Japan. Recently, series creator Toshihiro Nagoshi shared a few small details about the upcoming Yakuza 5 in a live morning Nico Nico Video broadcast.

Yakuza 5 will still be set in Kamurocho and in a yet-to-be-determined new city.
Yakuza 5 will still be set in Kamurocho and in a yet-to-be-determined new city.

According to a report on Japanese gaming site Andriasang, Yakuza 5's setting will still be in the city of Kamurocho, alongside a new digital re-creation of another Japanese city. Candidates for the new city include Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

Main series hero Kazuma Kiryu will still be in the game, with Nagoshi stating that it wouldn't be a Yakuza series without him. The creator also stated that he would like to insert a prequel chapter that details the formation of the Tojo Clan, which was the focal Yakuza clan of the series.

Nagoshi did not talk about whether he will include a hostess component, nor did he mention whether the game will have multiple protagonists as was the case in Yakuza 4.
