Torn update

Black Isle Studios releases new information on and a new group of screens from its upcoming 3D role-playing game.

Comments

Black Isle Studios has updated the official Web site for its upcoming role-playing game Torn with some new screenshots and an overview of the character system used in the game. The screenshots, which we've posted in our gallery, show off some of the environments that will appear in the game, including a new dock area.

Torn will use the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. role-playing system that was featured in Black Isle's Fallout role-playing game series. The system is based on seven basic character attributes, each corresponding to a letter in the name: strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, and luck. Each attribute affects a different element in the game--for instance, a character with a high strength is able to cause more damage in combat with each successful hit, while a character with a high charisma is able to interact better socially due to his or her personality and appearance. In addition to these basic attributes, each character has statistics affected by the attributes such as hit points, mana points, and carry weight, as well as statistics like race, gender, experience point, and karma, which are either chosen by the player or determined by in-game events. These elements make up the basic character, which can then be further customized with skills, traits, and perks.
