Research group SuperData has released its monthly report on the top digital games for the month of May 2016, and its assortments of lists were topped by all of the expected games.

In terms of digital revenue worldwide, Uncharted 4 and Overwatch led the way on consoles and PC, respectively, during their debut month. League of Legends continues to top the group it's assigned to--free-to-play MMOs, which counts Dota 2 as the number five game--and World of Warcraft remains the top subscription-based MMO. (Star Wars: The Old Republic is also considered a paid MMO; it's number four in that category.) Monster Strike leads the way on mobile, followed by Clash Royale and Clash of Clans.

On the console side, Overwatch came in at just number five, trailing the strong continued success of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, FIFA 16, and The Division. Combining PC and consoles, Overwatch made $269 million in revenue, wildly outpacing its Gearbox-developed competitor, Battleborn, which is estimated to have made just $18 million. Again, keep in mind that these figures only account for digital sales.

Tencent's recent acquisition of Supercell made headlines recently thanks to its whopping $8.6 billion purchase price, a sum that far outpaces those seen in the sales of Star Wars (as part of Lucasfilm) and Minecraft (with Mojang). Mobile games--Supercell's specialty--are often dismissed by some portion of the gaming audience, but SuperData's report helps to highlight why its sale price was so high. As noted above, two Supercell games, Clash Royale and Clash of Clans, occupied the second and third spots on the top mobile game revenue charts.

More specifically, they combined to earn $193 million during the month. Compare that with the top console game, Uncharted 4, which made $56 million, and you can begin to see why Tencent was willing to pay such a high price.
