Dino game Ark: Survival Evolved stays on top.

What games sold the most on the PlayStation Store for North America in January? Now we know, as Sony today released the best-selling charts for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and more.

Leading the way on PS4 for the second month in a row was the dinosaur game Ark: Survival Evolved, which came out in December. It beat out Capcom's Resident Evil 7, which arrived on January 24. Rounding out the top five for PS4 in January were Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Battlefield 1, and Grand Theft Auto V. Despite launching on the last day of the month, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's Sabotage expansion was the best-selling PS4 add-on during the month.

Job Simulator was the most-purchased PlayStation VR game, followed by Fruit Ninja VR, I Expect You To Die, Kygo "Carry Me" VR Experience, and Batman: Arkham VR.

Moving to PS3, Devil May Cry HD Collection sold the most, followed by Shadow of the Colossus, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Battlefield 4, and Watch Dogs. For PS Vita, MegaTagmension Blanc + Neptune Vs Zombies was the best-selling game, while Dark Cloud 2 was the top-performing game in the PlayStation Classic category.

No point in posting downloads only if it doesn't also represent physical copies sold

All the talk about exclusives and the top selling games are multiplats

Ark? ARK?! Are people retarded, why do they buy that horrible unoptimized garbage?

HAH Knack on number 20, **** yeah. That meme is still going strong.

We all know that exclusives sell less than multiplats for the most part specially if that exclusive is a very niche title. Gravity Rush 2 and Yakuza 0 both fit that description and not only that, they came out towards the later half of the month. Still, there are enough players out there that enjoy this type of exclusives that's why the PS is on top!

17/20 is multiplatform game lol and top is early access.

@amiabilita: If it was on sale, then people with kids, possibly? I got it bundled with my launch day PS4 and whilst I refused to play it myself, my two boys thought it was awesome :-)

In all honesty aren't we comparing just 7 days of release of RE7 with a full month's release of ARK and somehow finding that amazing? This article, and many of the comments here relating to this, are utter garbage.

Avatar image for Zzshock

@mdinger: most sales for a game are day 1. Don't forget day 1 includes not only day 1 sales, but weeks and sometimes months of pre-orders.

@sellingthings: It's actually three. Knack, the Order, and KH2.8... still not impressive but at least get your facts right.

@sellingthings: Listening to how you go on, everything is sad or negative in some way.

And exclusives typically make up about 5% of a console's library. 10% of that list is exclusives so - ya know - some perspective please?

@sellingthings: that is a pretty stupid comment.

Avatar image for domiddian

@sellingthings: You sure that's not due to the lack of third party support on Nintendo's last console? How about this for perspective; you're not exactly comparing apples with apples.

It certainly wasn't 45% on the original Wii. That was swimming in third party support.

Avatar image for domiddian
Domiddian

@sellingthings: As I explained; Wii U had very little third party support, so the proprtion of first party titles on that console is obviously going to be higher.

The 3DS is not a home console. Did you remember my little point about comparing apples with apples? It doesn't have the same library or audience as mainstream consoles, so obviously it will have a ton of games which are exclusive to it because those games wouldn't be suitable for home consoles.

My God...

Avatar image for domiddian

@sellingthings: Wise decision to back out now. And you speak the truth; it's not worth the time. I'm guessing it takes forever to explain shit when you're flat out wrong. But then you'd know all about that.

Avatar image for wexorian
wexorian

@domiddian: First and main reason what people are showing and never stop talking about is exclusive this exclusive that, so does nintendo have an exclusives, lack of 3rd party is another thing to talk about.

I can see why Order 1886. It was on sale for $5.

Avatar image for deviltaz35
DEVILTAZ35

@rasterror: What is surprising about that game is the fantastic acting. It definitely needs more gameplay but i am hoping one day they will release a similar game that is more complex as the setting is fantastic.

The creatures are actually scary as well in a few locations, at least the very first time you play it.

The worst thing to do with this game is watch anything about it before you play it yourself or it ruins it.

@deviltaz35: I absolutely loved this game for a rent. Such a underrated story-driven game imo. The characters, the settings like you said, the weapons etc. The Order was great imo. Also such a easy plat.

I remember an article on here when the Ark devs were talking about a potential ps4 version. Everybody in the comments was like "thank god sony doesn't allow in-development games on its console" or "early access is stupid; we only play complete games". Meanwhile, Ark (which is still in-development) is at the top of the charts. That's in addition to other games that aren't actually in full release like 7 Days to Die (which the devs made special promotion deals with sony for) and Paragon.

Gotta love the hypocrisy.

Avatar image for gameroutlawzz
GamerOuTLaWzz

@ExoticCharm: I own 7days to die but simply cause I bought the 8$ bundle of telltale TWD season 1-2 and Michonne and they gave that ugly 7days to die crap in the bundle with the rest. I looked it up on youtube, saw it was another early access unoptimized POS and never bothered installing it on my ps4. now I bet this counts as a sale toward these clowns.

Avatar image for Zzshock

@ExoticCharm: I got Ark on xb1 and technically speaking, it was garbage. Rubber banding, frame freezes, no collision detection, looking around caused a blurry smudgy mess of pixels...

Avatar image for domiddian
Domiddian

@ExoticCharm: How is that hypocrisy? A few people commenting on this gaming site do not represent the entire Playstation community. Even ALL of the PS4 gamers on this site are but a tiny, tiny fraction of the entire Playstation community. It's not a valid observation. You've simply seen a few comments from people who didn't agree with half finished games being on Playstation and applied that attitude to every single Playstation gamer. Yet the people who made these comments you speak of may never have even bought Ark.

The sheer ignorance of your logic is breathtaking.

Avatar image for ExoticCharm
ExoticCharm

@domiddian: That's odd. I remember calling out the people making those comments, not literally every playstation owner.

Sounds like the ignorance is on your end.

Avatar image for domiddian
Domiddian

@ExoticCharm: Umm, how do you know the people you called out contributed in any way to the sales of Ark. You don't. Yet this is what you assumed. My point is there are millions of PS4 owners out there. Perhaps those millions contributed to the sales of Ark rather than the people you called out?

Gratz on missing the point completely.

Avatar image for ExoticCharm
ExoticCharm

@domiddian: My god you are dense. Let me spell it out for you.

The sales aren't the point, nor is it who bought the games. It's the policy that people pretended didn't exist. The fanboys who were saying that stuff in the other article were praising sony for their decision to not put in-development games on their system. However, sony DID do that several times. Not only were they still pandering for sony about a decision that the company wasn't actually doing, but they were taking shots at steam and xbox for allowing games through a preview program.

That's twice that you've misinterpreted everything. You going to go for a third?

Avatar image for fedor

@ExoticCharm: full stop, you're a fool.

Avatar image for domiddian
Domiddian

@ExoticCharm: Lol! I'm dense because you left a vague as shit comment and expected everyone to just figure it out? If that's what you meant then fucking say so you dumb shit; give us a clue and put forward a cohesive argument.

Personally I think you're backtracking, but whatever... I obviously "misunderstood".

Avatar image for sambucca
sambucca

@ExoticCharm: To be fair, I read your OP and assumed the same thing he did. You didn't actually explain yourself very well in either of your comments, so you can't really call him dense for "misinterpreting" what you said. None of us have crystal balls and you didn't exactly give much away. And how can you say "sales aren't the point" when you specifically pointed out that Ark was at the top of the charts? Kinda backs up his argument and completely diminishes yours.

Avatar image for domiddian
Domiddian

@sambucca: Exactly, and why did he call those people out as hypocrites instead of just saying they were plain wrong about Sony's policy?

And he called me dense?

We all know what he was implying. Unfortunately for him, he did a shit job of trying to backpeddle his way out of it. Idiot.

Avatar image for Mogan

@ExoticCharm: Ark has over 77k people playing it right now on Steam, but only a "Mixed" user review average there.

Gamers love to talk tough and get angry, but they also don't remember anything past the last game a publisher put out. : \
