Now Playing: Putting The Nintendo Labo To The Test

PS4 exclusive God of War has kept its place atop the UK physical games chart this week--while Far Cry 5 maintains its No.2 position--meaning new release Nintendo Labo must settle for No.3 at launch. To be precise, it's the Toy-Con 1: Variety Kit that's reached No.3. The other Labo set, Toy-Con 2: Robot Kit debuts at No.20 for the week ending April 28.

There were no other new releases this week, unless you include the Nintendo Switch version of South Park: The Fractured But Whole, which helps the game as a whole re-enter the chart at No.19. Notably, last week's No.3--PS4 exclusive Yakuza 6: The Song of Life--slips to No.39 this week.

Little else has changed in the all-formats chart this week. FIFA 18 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are non-movers at No.4 and No.5, respectively, as is Grand Theft Auto V at No.10. You can read the full top 10 sales chart below, courtesy of UKIE and Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.

God of War, meanwhile, is seemingly going down well with players in the UK. It went down well critically too, and it was awarded a 9/10 in our God of War review.

"In many ways God of War is what the series has always been," wrote our critic, Peter Brown. "It's a spectacular action game with epic set pieces, big-budget production values, and hard-hitting combat that grows more feverish and impressive as you progress. What may surprise you is how mature its storytelling has become. Like Kratos, God of War recalls the past while acknowledging the need to improve. Everything new it does is for the better, and everything it holds onto benefits as a result. Kratos is no longer a predictable brute. God of War is no longer an old-fashioned action series. With this reboot, it confidently walks a new path that will hopefully lead to more exciting adventures to come."

  1. God of War
  2. Far Cry 5
  3. Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 1: Variety Kit
  4. FIFA 18
  5. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  6. Fallout 4
  7. Call of Duty: WWII
  8. Super Mario Odyssey
  9. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
  10. Grand Theft Auto V

GOW, being the 7th installment of a long-running high profile Sony franchise, selling top during it's first launch weeks is something to be expected...

But Mario Kart 8 as top 5 after one year?? wow! That is impressive!

And PUBG, being an unfinished game (and Fornite for free) still kicking on top 9 is amazing.

Still amazed some many people are hype to buy cardboard.

@str8killa007: Oh really....i don't know, i kinda think you spoke too soon. It's only been 5 years. Let's just wait and see.

PC is my main platform but holy shit. GOW is fraking amazing. If Sony continues to make these amazing SP games then I won't wait to get a PS5 like I did with the PS4.

@Gamer_4_Fun: You do know it takes them almost 4 years to make great SP amazing games. The first few years of a Playstation launch is kind of bare.

Where are all the" Sony fans don't buy exclusives" people. Get used to this no.1

Avatar image for michellebennet

@blood-souls: The base of Sony fans who buy Exclusives is about 10-15% of the total PS4 owners.

The rest just buy FIFA, and other multiplatform games.

That's why there are no other Sony exclusives selling even 10 millions. 8 millions for HZD and Uncharted 4. that's it.

Launch week for a long-running high-profile Sony franchise is to be expected.

@michellebennet: The other 85% still buy exclusives... Used games are a thing.

@blood-souls: at least sony know how sale single player games and it sold more than sea of thevies . Phil so wrong about single players . Phil don’t like story single players and he hates story games. Xbox know a joke.

Avatar image for gamingdevil800

@blood-souls: Cause they expect all 79 million PS4 owners to like the exact same games and buy every exclusive which is unrealistic lol.

@gamingdevil800: exactly lol

Don't think anyone would have expected anything less from such a blockbuster title like God of War. On a personal note (having just beat it.) I can say it completely blew away every expectation I had for it and I can easily see why anyone would think it was the best installment in the franchise.

Amazing game that is most definitely worthy of a game of the year nod.

In other news: Fish swim, birds fly, and everything is exactly as you'd expect it would be. I'm Oscar Obvious, now on to the Weather with Peter Predictable.

With titles like "Nintendo Switch's Labo Fails To Knock God Of War From No.1" its obvious that the gaming industry is ran by fanboys. And people wonder why gaming is not taken seriously.
