Now Playing: Crackdown 3 - Official Launch Trailer

Far Cry: New Dawn wins the battle of the new releases this week as it debuts at No.1 in the UK physical sales chart, ahead of Metro: Exodus at No.2. Xbox One console exclusive Crackdown 3, however, fails to make the top 10 for the week ending February 16.

Sales monitor GfK Chart-Track also notes that Metro: Exodus was top of the chart in terms of revenue--likely owing to New Dawn's lower RRP. Microsoft's commitment to making all first party games available on release day at no extra cost with Xbox Game Pass should also be remembered. For comparison's sake, the last big Xbox exclusive, Forza Horizon 4, debuted at No.3, so Crackdown 3's No.13 finish may come as a disappointment for Microsoft. Jump Force is the final new release this week, and it finishes at No.4 in its first week on sale.

Far Cry: New Dawn launched to a mixed critical reception. We awarded the spin-off a 6/10 in our Far Cry: New Dawn review, with critic Edmond Tran stating the open-world title "is a palatable but unremarkable spin-off that feels like it could have achieved so much more."

Our 8/10 Metro: Exodus review, meanwhile, was rather more positive. Michael Higham said "Exodus puts together a charismatic crew of friends and family that you'll want to follow to the ends of the earth."

Finally, Crackdown 3 has suffered from a poor reception from critics, including a 5/10 in GameSpot's Crackdown 3 review. Chris Pereira said "the game has little new to offer beyond cool destruction tech that never gets put to good use."

You can read the full top 10 sales chart below, courtesy of UKIE and Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.

  1. Far Cry: New Dawn
  2. Metro: Exodus
  3. Red Dead Redemption 2
  4. Jump Force
  5. FIFA 19
  6. Resident Evil 2
  7. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
  8. Kingdom Hearts
  9. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  10. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

No shock. This game looked horrible from the beginning.

Hated the MP technical demo and was prepared to hate the Single player but after 2 hours I was well hooked. It’s got that “just one more orb” or “one more objective” feel about it. I can’t stop playing it

So, I will never buy it but getting it on Gamepass I feel like I’m getting a great deal and more than happy with.

Broken and shallow State of Decay 2 & empty Sea of Thieves did better in their release week and made it to the top 10 charts (SoD2 budget title) This means one thing, some gamers are waking up. I've already seen some revolt from Xbox fans on YouTube and other social media. That's the right way to go, give MS/Phil the right message.

Is GTA5 on holiday this week or something?

...and on the topic of GamePass, head to the "Leaving Soon" section and install Aven Colony. I played for about 4h last night and it's an excellent little city-builder.

Don't get too crazy over-building before you have plenty of power, and you'll easily get many hours out of it.

@Pyrosa: You love your gamepass. We get it.

Releasing the same day as Far Cry and Metro it was obvious who would be the biggest loser.

Avatar image for m4a5

Hmmmmm... I wonder how many people are playing it on game pass.

Avatar image for girlusocrazy

@m4a5: So it's a built in excuse for poor sales from now on? If MS doesn't rely on sales anymore they don't have as much incentive to make a good game.

Avatar image for m4a5

@girlusocrazy: Sure, if you want it to be.

But last I checked, getting a niche game free on a service beats buying it outright.

And MS will still be looking at all the stats when it comes down to what games they're willing to fund.

@m4a5: I do :)

@nsa_protocol44: exactly.

nice to see that gamers were smart enough to avoid it. a job well done.

Avatar image for Pyrosa

@Xristophoros: It's zero-risk with GamePass, and none of those numbers will ever show up on charts like this.

For ~$0, it's been fun. Not amazing, but also not broken... just fun.

This past weekend, I been playing Anthem, (EA Origin Premier) Crackdown 3 (thank you Game Pass) & Far Cry: New Dawn. I'm more surprise New Dawn took number 1 spot, I would thought it be Metro Exodus but New Dawn is a surprise but then again, it's a really fun game and it's Rage 2 release early in a way lol.

Congratulations to the top 10 winners!

Avatar image for gamingdevil800

@davillain-: In the UK Far Cry New Dawn can be bought for £30 on consoles with it being £25 at some places for the PC key so it's like half the price of a full price game atm.

I got Crackdown 3 by being an Game Pass Subscriber and Terry Crews had me cracking up as he was exaggerating his points and that walk of his. He can't host but he can act but as far Crackdown goes it is okay but not an classic and I see Crackdown 3 not as an serious action game but more of an humorous type game. I wish I can shut that operator up for it irritates the hell out of me. I liked the first one better though and in time I will get used to this one.

The game is fun, a lot! if you're a gamepass subscriber (it should be partly the reason for low sales) you should try it at least. The game is not what haters say about it and is not even close to be a 360 game, seriously WTH is wrong with people. I'm not saying is the best AAA game ever released, it lacks a lot of stuff and the 5 years in develpment hurt them badly. But I think is a game worth give it a chance. Is my opinion of course.

Avatar image for Pyrosa

It's fun, same as the first game, but nothing more. A solid 7 that I'll probably keep playing between other games. I.e., all of it is "just good" -- there aren't any moments of "Hell yes" that I've found yet.

Only thing I don't like is dodge-roll being on LS click, and the generally un-remappable buttons. They're not awful, but not ideal.

Legendary is clearly the mode they intended for most gamers, like anyone who has beaten a Dark Souls. This game is very easy by comparison; you just keep moving and killing.

February wasn't a good time to release that game.

Avatar image for barcaazul

Probably better than November last year mind.

Avatar image for Xirtahm

@Arkhalipso: According to a lot of people who bought it, NO time was a good time to release it. :/

Avatar image for Pyrosa

@Xirtahm: Included w/GamePass, which has paid for itself about 40x over in just 3 months already in my case.

I really like the concept of game pass and can see it on other consoles and PC in the future from other companies.

Is it 1st party only or is there 2nd or 3rd party too?

Avatar image for videogameninja

Who says that review scores don’t have an impact on sales.

Perhaps the developers behind the Crackdown franchise will go back to the drawing board and give the series a different approach in the future. It’s true that the franchise was never anything mind blowing to begin with but a big AAA 1st party exclusive being regulated to such low critical and commercial success is quite the blemish on Microsoft studios.

Avatar image for barcaazul

Another way to look at it is that they chose CD3 and sea of thieves over Scalebound, i so I'm guessing it must have been very poor and why they invested heavily in new studios.

Avatar image for freeryu

@videogameninja: I have about 8 hours in it and I haven't found anything 5/10 worthy so far. I think it was the lack of advertisement, rightfully so, this is Don Mattricks last greenlit game lol.
