Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Documentary Comes Up Short In Funding, But It's Still Happening

"Pretending I'm a Superman The Tony Hawk Game Story," did not meet its funding target.

The documentary about the famous Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series failed to reach its funding goal of $75,000 on Indiegogo. The campaign for "Pretending I'm a Superman The Tony Hawk Game Story" ended this week bringing in only $17,409.

Now, the producers of the film have released a statement, confirming that they still intend to produce the documentary. However, it might take longer than expected given funding wasn't as successful as they had hoped. Unlike Kickstarter, Indiegogo is not all-or-nothing, so the makers of the documentary are using the funds they received, in addition to their own investment, to finance the film.

In the statement, the producers explain that it was never their intent to rely exclusively on Indiegogo funding. Had the full $75,000 come through, the production process might have gone faster. Additionally, a number of sponsors have expressed interest in backing the project, the statement says, though they were not named.

Though the $75,000 figure was not reached, the team said in the statement that "there is, in fact, a pretty big audience that found the project interesting."

Along with accounts from Tony Hawk himself, the film is expected to feature developers and skaters who helped create everything from the first Pro Skater to the most recent fifth installment and the many games in between.

It's being produced by Ralph D'Amato, who was also a producer on Tony Hawk's earlier games. You can learn more about the project here.

The latest Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game was 2015's Pro Skater 5, which many remarked was a disappointment.
