Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero dev building Call of Duty

Activision has tapped yet another studio to work on the Call of Duty series. According to Neversoft's newly updated website, the Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero studio has joined Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Raven Software, and Sledgehammer Games in working on the series.

"We have molded our team into a crack squad of eager developers ready to push the first-person action genre in support of Activision's Call of Duty franchise," reads Neversoft's new splash page.

The website points to its career page, where eight positions at the Woodland Hills, California, developer are presently available. Further information was not provided, and as of press time, Activision had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

Two years ago this month, job listings at Neversoft indicated the shop was working on an action shooter, but no information on the project has yet come to light. Neversoft's last release was 2010's Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, the final entry in the rhythm franchise to see release before Activision put the series on hiatus.

Prior to building Guitar Hero games (the studio put out seven such titles between 2007 and 2010), Neversoft created and developed the critically acclaimed Tony Hawk skateboarding series, beginning with 1999's original Pro Skater and running up to 2007's Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. The studio does have prior experience with shooters having developed the Xbox 360 launch title Gun.

The latest Call of Duty title is Black Ops II, which is due out on November 13. The game is a sequel to the best-selling Call of Duty to date and is in development at Treyarch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
