Filmmaker duo Mark and Jay Duplass will co-produce a newly announced Tony Hawk feature documentary, according to Variety. The untitled film will be directed by Sam Jones (I Am Trying to Break Your Heart), and is expected to debut in festivals this fall followed by a wider 2022 release.

"We've been quietly working on this one for a few years," producer Mark Duplass told Variety. "We are floored with the unmitigated access Tony has allowed us to his life and his fascinating relationship to the sport."

The film will reportedly focus on the life and career of the 53-year-old skater, and it coincidentally marks the second collaboration between Hawk and Jones. The skateboarder previously appeared as a guest on Season 1 of Off Camera with Sam Jones, the filmmaker's interview-format TV series.

As Variety also notes, this upcoming documentary about the man comes after the 2020 doc Pretending I'm a Superman--The Tony Hawk Video Game Story. As the title and timing suggests, a documentary about Hawk's popular video game franchise has managed to come out before one about the skateboarder himself.

And, just in case anyone was wondering or doubting it--earlier this year, at 52, the Birdman uploaded a video to Twitter showing that he can still nail impressive tricks.
