In October, Tomb Raider: Underworld was still the twinkle in Eidos' eye. The game had not yet failed to meet management's sales expectations and was still safe and sound in its crib at a fully staffed Crystal Dynamics. Back then, Eidos announced the first of two Xbox 360-exclusive downloadable add-ons for Underworld, penciling in the Beneath the Ashes bonus chapter for a holiday release.

A lot can change in just a few months, however. In addition to disappointing sales of Underworld and Crystal Dynamics' staff cuts, Eidos failed to deliver Beneath the Ashes during the projected holiday window. Now, the DLC has taken one more hit, as Eidos confirmed today that it would once again be delaying Underworld's first add-on beyond its revised February 10 release.

"An unexpected technical issue means that Beneath the Ashes will not be available to download on 10 February as planned," an Eidos representative told GameSpot. "We apologize for this delay and we are doing everything we can to bring you this exciting new content for Tomb Raider: Underworld as soon as possible. We'll provide you with an update soon, once we can confirm the launch date."

Beneath the Ashes works as an epilogue to Tomb Raider: Underworld. Included in the chapter will be a new environment, complemented by new puzzles and a cast of unique enemies. Eidos plans to release a second chapter--titled Lara's Shadow--for the Xbox 360 edition of the game at a later date.
