The original story appears below.

As promised, the full trailer for Tomb Raider is here. Alicia Vikander stars as Lara Croft, and the movie certainly looks like it will live up to director Roar Uthaug's earlier suggestion that the 2013 reboot game would be a big influence, with some moments taken directly from the game. The trailer was originally published on Instagram by co-star Daniel Wu, but it has since been removed, though you can still watch it above.

The film also stars Dominic West (The Wire) as Lara's father, Walton Goggins (Sons of Anarchy) as the villain, and Daniel Wu (Warcraft) as a ship captain who works with Lara on her adventure.

Uthaug's previous movie was the disaster epic The Wave, and in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Vikander reveals that shooting Tomb Raider was a similarly water-drenched experience. "Just like in The Wave, we have a lot of water sequences," she said. "I spent my last two days of shooting in a tank and that was my 16th total day being fully drenched or submerged in the water. For one action scene, we used the London venue for Olympic rafting. They threw me down that river--with my hands tied--about 50 times. I didn't need to act, just react!"

Tomb Raider hits theaters on March 16, 2018. On the gaming side, while no new Tomb Raider has been announced, a sequel to Rise of the Tomb Raider is likely, as the 2013 reboot has been described as part of a trilogy. A leak last year suggested the name of the third game is Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

I thought it looked good until that stupid ending line in the gun shop. It cheapened it and made it feel like some crappy 80's Schwarzenegger or Stallone film.

The action looks a little 'flat'

I was hoping to see a more timid Lara who grows into the killer we know and love, but this looks like she's already 'begun her legend' in a prequel or something. It will be a good action movie to see after bluray release.

To break up the negativity, I actually, genuinely liked the trailer. There basing this off the reboot which is a great video game with a fantastic story. If the movie hits the right tone and story beats of the game then they could have made themselves a good movie. Looks like a fun adventure movie, i'm intrigued, want to see more

I can only imagine rage/panic/disappointment, when Netflix will reveal actor, who will play Geralt.

This comment section resembles those of the reboot series of tomb raider games, people complaining about the physical appearance of the character/actress.

beyond just not caring much for the new lara in general. One of the big things that bothers me in the games and i can see it here in the movie too is Lara is so dark depressive and emoish, as where the original was a real woman who was even in bad spots confident and always looking for the solution rather than doom and gloom.

Why would you put Walton Goggins's credit as Sons of Anarchy, a show which he had only guest appearances? Why not the current Vice Principals, or the earlier predominant role in Justified? Or, going back further the great TheShield?

Avatar image for zmanbarzel

@eggs_benedict: "Vice Principals" wouldn't be a good option as it's an HBO show that most of the GS readership isn't familiar with. I do agree with you on using "Justified" and (especially) "The Shield."

YES, Politically Correct Lara Croft is here!

Avatar image for phili878

@greaseman1985: No kidding. Dare whoever producer hires a big breast actress to resemble the original Lara Croft from the games, that is just too anti-feminist, sexist, degrading women appearance, blablabla.....

Avatar image for Mogan

@phili878: They actually did that. Twice. And both those movies are awful. Probably not the boobs' fault, but still, if the only thing off about this version of Lara is that she's less top heavy, it'll be an improvement on what came before.

@phili878:

@greaseman1985:

Except the original Lara Croft had comical cartoon-boobs almost as wide/large as her waist. Not sure what sort of hole you live in to think that not having anime-style breasts/waistlines is the same thing as going out of your way to be "politically correct". It must be really disappointing in the real world for you.

The actress for the movie is a total babe so I don't really understand what you're complaining about.

Avatar image for greaseman1985

@Abberon: Hey man, whatever floats your boat, if you like teen boy looking flat chested no a** women, go for it.

Avatar image for Abberon

@greaseman1985:

It's not about what I'm into lol. The conversation is about your pathetic and juvenile expectation for a real-life woman to fulfill animé and cartoon proportions.

@greaseman1985: You dudes are horrible, smh. I would imagine she's much more than her chest. Get a girlfriend if you want to see boobs.

Looks like something that would air on Lifetime. I am not a fan of the painfully obvious CGI shots and needless slow mo. I expected a more realistic take on the character and story, Not a rehashing of the past 2 films.

Doesnt look as bad as most game movies but I'm still skeptical. I've been disappointed before when it comes to game based movies.
